This is a new one on me but someone attempted to scam me as I was selling my van on auto trader this afternoon. They ask sensible questions, discuss price, say they’d like to see the van the next day but would you mind running a vehicle check for them on specific site. I said no simply because that’s the buyers responsibility but was suspicious and checked it a bit more. The site is a scam basically and it’s just there to get your details. There never were any buyers, it’s just another way to get credit card data by convincing you that you’re about to sell your vehicle.
Careful kids, some people are nasty.

Re: Car/bike/van selling scam
Nasty is right. The last two bikes I sold on Ebay were a nightmare. Bidders who weren't genuine or would try to beat you down without even looking at the bike. One suspicious non-bidder that I blocked then used a similar account to try again. Finally got my phone number and threatened me in a very unpleasant conversation because I wouldn't delay payment for weeks to suit him. Ebay has rules but buyers don't respect them. There also seem to be spoilers who put in a winning bid then disappear without trace and never communicate again.
