Grrrrr bloody local event has been cancelled due to predicted bad weather.
Which wouldn't be so bad, except as I have 2 leaders of the local Brownies, Rainbows, Guides, Rangers living here and they run the tea tent at the event to raise funds for aforementioned little darlings, I have 3 tonnes of tea bags, instants coffee, cake and sausage roll makings cluttering up the dining room.

Anyone fancy a brew :x

There was a classic event by us cancelled due to predicted bad weather a few weeks back, cancelled 2 days prior. Some still went, blue sky and sunshine.

This new wheeze that websites have discovered to force cookies on you.

Previously it was just a long list of 100s of toggles you had to turn off. But now I'm seeing more and more websites asking me to pay actual money to avoid cookies.

I can go without looking at the article I was only vaguely interested in, thanks.

Yeah, know what you mean and me too.
Brave browser seems to stop all that for me though, and allow you to read it without agreeing to it all

Some observations when commuting on the train:

People who don't take their backpacks off on a crowded train.

People who insist on putting their bag on the seat next to them, but then start harrumping when you ask them to move it.

Using the phone speaker for conversations/music. FFS: headphones!

Ha! Just wait until the flu and cold season starts and people are sneezing and snotting everywhere! :D

And another thing that annoys me. People who hold there phone horizontally to their ear. What's the point of that?

Phones are designed to be used like....well...a phone, but they hold it to their ear and then back to their mouth when they want to speak and so on.

Plus, they never really have a good grasp of the phone, normally fingertips, so it makes it particularly vulnerable to phone snatchers.

This bugs me on the school runs - half a dozen kids all listening to different things on different phones on LOUD - WTF do they not have head phones FFS :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

Piss poor customer service…

Booked and attended a contact lens appointment with Vision Express on 22nd - outcome - free trial of multi-focal (both eyes) or toric (right distance/ left reading). Told they’d be in contact (sic) within the week and I’ve not heard a thing.

Spent 45 mins on hold yesterday, no joy, phoned another branch who promised a call back once they’d attempted to contact other branch as their systems aren’t linked. No call back received.

Finally managed to speak with someone this morning, lenses haven’t arrived, no process for checking missed orders, only received orders, so they are reordering with the promise they’ll call once the lenses arrive…

I’m currently looking at other high street providers but appointments are few and far between. Open to suggestions. I’ve worn lenses before but it’s been a few years and that was just one eye.

Wife does the left/right reading/distance thing and says it takes a while for the ol' brainium to adjust but it's well worth persevering and she would definitely not go back to a 'normal' arrangement. If they're providing dailies it'll take a few to properly adjust to them.

I can recommend an optician but it's in the SE not the NE. :D We've found local independents to be better than the national chains, tend to be more £ but worth it if you find a good 'un.

I do 'contact in leftie for distance, no contact in rightie to do the screen/reading' arrangement and it's worked ok for years, but I think it may be time to chat with the optician re multi-focals as I'm finding myself squinting at the phone screen quite a bit.

One in the right worked really well for me when I remembered to put it in but I found I didn’t really need it for most things so soon got out of the habit. It’s really only over the last 12-18 months I’ve noticed how bad my distance vision had got as it has been harder and harder to read the on-screen TV guide.

I’ve got varifocal glasses for every day which are great when I remember where I’ve left them and distance prescription sunglasses in the car. Reading prescription has steadily increased as I’ve got older.

Bloody email systems :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

I have a noggin.com address that I use for my stuff and a gmail for everything else (and anything that might create junk mail!!)

Tried to send an email with a load of PDFs earlier to someone I'm going to work for for one day (well, after tonight, he may say no!!).

It kept saying, can't send, mail too big - FFS

So I took a load of attachments out and resent, then put the attachments into another mail to send - forgetting I'd jsut used the Gmail account and bloody sent the second mail on that :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

THEN - the original one bounced back so I copied all the separate bits of info into one document and resent - which worked

But, FFS, bastard emails!! I know Gmail is easier in some ways but I get so much shit on it I prefer to use the other for my stuff - just didn't really work for me tonight

Here's hoping I still get the days work from him (a bus tour with the OH and quite well paid !! ) - hopefully he'll just think I can't use a computer but will still believe I can drive (sine the OH recommended me!!!)

Bastard technology :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

Store 'em in Google drive, or whatever the Apple equivalent is if you're that way inclined, right click, 'share' , copy link, email link, no big files need to go anywhere.

Yes, and regularly emailing me with announcements on new features I don't need

:)

Have an interesting article to read (interesting twist at the end, but not spoil it by flicking through to that first)

:( :( :( But, I'm a simple person - I have pdfs on my laptop, I just want to attach them to an email :( :( :(

I've never had much luck with Dropbox and after the few failed attempts, I now get constant emails from them telling me the drop box is full or I'm gonna lose file or something FFS !!!

cvilla wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 9:25 am Or try WeTransfer, seems to work.
Does it 'work' the same way as Dropbox (although that didn't work for me!)

What's weird is that Gmail just sent half the files on one email (albeit accidentally) with no issues - with noggin.com it would send one pdf :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

I have a vague memory that Gmail has a five attachments limit. Or summat.
