Sending my ecu off to Wiz shortly but he doesn't think he'll be able to turn off the AIS on my 2019 model. Has anyone ever installed block off plates? It pretty simple to do? Cheers

Well that's a bit confusing, i'm sure he did on mine... or maybe because i stayed with a Cat he didn't need to ?

As you can imagine, due to the cold, frost and snow, i've not had a chance to try mine yet... Looking at the forecast i'm hoping to do so next week.

You need to borrow a code reader to clear the errors on startup the first time ?

LOL you've been debating an XSR900 since sitting on mine

Hope the new version works out and simple cleaning keeps on top of it. I'll be watching with interest as the exhaust is crap on most XSRs and it would bother me so if I buy one at least I'll know if the OE exhaust is anyway decent and it's lazy bastards not cleaning them that's the problem or if they are doomed regardless.

Didn't you tell me years ago you didn't need them as you didn't ride in temps lower than 5C?

Yeah, but as i've got older, the temps in my fingers seem harsher, so 13 deg now even i start getting chilly... So if i don't ride until above that, it basically rules out 90% of riding in the UK. So it's either better gloves or better grips.

I'd forgotten a few things about the XSR until i started work on fitting the heated grips today.

I'd forgotten just how lovely and refined some of the bits, fittings, fastenings are on it.

I'd also fogotten just how bloody impossible it is to get to the battery on these things !!!!

First job was a test fitting and trimming to correct length.

Then it was some removing of panels

then onto the fun part or wiring, routing, cabling. The wires they give you could do 2 maybe 3 bikes, i could have routed it round the back of the bike, to the front and back to the battery, In the end i found a decent enough route for it and it's mostly hidden.

So a quick power on test, check and then onto gluing the grips on and finding a suitable location for the bracket.

The bike doesn't lend itself well to where the bracket needs to go, it's OK there, but meh, not a lot i can do about it. I may look into the handlebar mount that the KTM guys use and see if i can get one, i think it'd work better there, but it doesn't touch or hit anything so it can/may actually stay where it is now. They're now glued in place and we're all OK with the feel of them. The throttle works well and smoothly still. Nothing snags or catches on throttle or the cabling, so it's signed off as 'accepptable' but being a little of a picky perfectionist, it's not as wonderful a job as i'd ideally like to see.

I've not tested them for heat yet, i'll go out into the garage for a bit and do that.
