That's not what that means! No wonder the Merc salesmen didn't peg you as an SL owner.

Isn't cork inferior to screw top from a quality POV anyway? ;)
If a wine with a decent real cork is kept on its side to keep the cork wet, it will keep for many years.
If you put a screw cap on, the oiks in morrisons cant ruin it by standing the bottle up...so in effect..yes.

Only ever had 2 bottles of corked wine (same wine, '98 Rhones out of a case of 12 opened in the 2010s). Once you smell it you'll never forget it, apparently it's drinkable with no ill effects, but I defy anyone to get it past their nose.

I remember someone waving a cork under their nose for about a minute and pontificating 'this wine is corked'. It needs a 1 second sniff followed by a need to barf.

I like 19 Crimes red wine. There's a box of it in the fridge, no problems with corks for me :)

If Crimes is sparkling, something has gone badly wrong.

So I'm a Philistine, I don't care.*

Red wine is supposed to be served at room temp, isn't it? But at the temperature of a room in an old French chateau, not at the temperature my wife likes to keep our centrally heated house.

Took me a while to drag it out my memory....I knew it was Aussie and the name had numbers in....but this is the stuff I was thinking of.

I bought it cause I'd not seen sparkling red in a champagne type bottle before. As far as food goes, seeing something new is like a red rag to a bull with me

Should probably get some more.

So if it's in a box, where do they put the crimes?

Had some blood tests done at the start of the month and went to see my GP today so he asked to see them (I've been waiting to take them to the 'relevant' doctor next week!)

The bit that made me happy?

One line he said, ah yes, this is high. But that's fine. It's how I know people are true local mountain people, your blood makes extra red cells (pretty sure that was the bit that was high!)

:bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde:

I did ask him to tell some of the other people that I was a proper local!!

Made me smile LOL

Once you get south of the Canal Du Midi it mostly gets served chilled! Chilling red wine kills the flavour for me, although with the wine I buy that may not be a bad thing! :D

In Italy it's not unusual for vini della casa to be served chilled because:

a - the summer evenings can be very warm

b - the stuff that comes out of the barrels is, on the whole, rough as a dog's testes.

I generally find the first glass goes down like Swarfega, but once you get the taste, that rest of that one litre carafe goes down a bloody treat.

The beer here has to be ice cold. And I always keep glasses in the ice box in the beer fridge.

Getting 'Letter of the Month' in a trade magazine.

Well, not quite. They don't actually have that recognition :( But it was the first one on the page.

Luckily, little danger of getting 'guest publication' on HIGNFY.

A friend got letter of the month in Practical Poultry for his opinions on their guano. Insanely proud of it, he was. ;)
