Today has not started well!!

The toothbrush holder/charger no longer charges 😡😡

Worse - driving up to Peisey and and descending car flashes lights so I slowed, just around a shallow bend was a group of cyclists (also going down) but stopped with their support van behind them. Not ideal just after a blind bend for anyone else coming down.

BUT, and worse, there were two cyclists, one hurt but sitting on the back bumper of the van and a couple of others dealing with him BEHIND the van 😳😳. Less than fifteen metres from the apex of a blind bend 🙄🙄

I seriously worry about humans - why do so many have no concept of safety? One of the able people only had to run around the bend and put the warning triangle out, but nope. Just hide around the bend so anything hurtling down on their commute risks squishing four humans and two cycles into a van and probably pushing the van into the group of cyclists waiting 😳😳

We were learning routes and the instructor passed over a route map to Tim - he then passed it to me.

Its very simple - it's three routes, each covers a bit of the same route, laid out very clearly in three different colours and with a key to the colours at the bottom

Tim hands it to me, waits till i've opened up and then leans over to explain that each colour is a different route; then which routes are which, using the key that is clearly marked !!

I did say "thank you very much, but it is just a simple map; I've been able to read a simple map like this for 50 years, I'm not 5 " !!!! (TBF, I can read and use a complicated map, just can't read one of those and drive at the same time!!)

I was laughing and did say thank you to him, but - he really is a patronising sexist fuckwit !!! I'd understand more if he was old, but he's in his early 30's !! Obviously just thinks I'm really really stoooopid!!!

Seeing vehicles for sale online.

What I want to do is phone a guy or girl who knows about the vehicle and can tell me about it. Check things I ask for etc.

All I can do is phone a guy or girl who only wants to talk about the finance options.

I'm not buying it, until I know it's the right one
You can't get me finance
I'm paying 'cash'

SO has it had any paint, are the arches rusty or effing not

Dealers have always hated cash buyers as the dealer gets a % of the interest as a commission for selling the finance agreement. Back when I was selling cars people always used to ask how much for cash and were miffed when we said it should be more as there's less profit for us! :D It wasn't quite as blatant as that but we'd tried to explain why we didn't discount for cash.

Today, buying vehicles is like buying houses, you need to be qualified to show you are actually capable of buying it, rather than waste the dealers time with dreamers and tyre kickers etc. That said, I don't know why a simple phone enquiry about the car can't be dealt with, unless it's a large retailer with hundreds of cars in stock, as they just aren't going to be that granular about an individual cars condition and will just refer you to their vehicle preparation and multiple check points before delivery policy.

I absolutely understand this. A friend of mine, maybe 25 years ago, spent an entire afternoon convincing a couple not to pay cash and to take the finance instead "I made more on the finance than I did on the car " he was working for a main dealer.

However right now, the radio is awash with 'solicitors' offering to claw back the commissions taken by vehicle sellers.....

Thee's two vans on my shortlist. The more expensive one has someone replying to my emails. The cheaper one hasn't.....

I'm also getting hacked off with seeing adverts, contacting the retailer, only to be told "That one's sold"
Well why is it still on your website then !!

Some (motorcycle) dealers are honest.

I bought a motorcycle on finance, the dealer got his bit, the manufacturer chipped in more money, and I cancelled the deal and paid off the balance at the end of the first month. I was happy, and the dealer too. He suggested this little scam.

IIRC I paid less than £20 in interest, but got an extra £500 contribution from the manufacturer.

Think is also applies to 0% deals - on my wife's last new car we had cash to buy outright but sales guy asked really nicely if we would take it on a 50% of value 0% interest deal so he'd get his kick-back.
We did just that but then cleared in within about 8 weeks.

I was in uk a few weeks ago so bought 2 pairs of gloves at J&S in Leeds.

One over-the-cuff for track and short pair for road.
Today tried the over-the-cuff pair on my day trip. Fuck. They won't even go over my light jacket I'm wearing today.
No way over my leathers.

Then I realised they go UNDER the cuff.
Fark. What a pain. Especially as they were about £120.

I've been using the short pair most of the day. The idea was to break them in for my forthcoming trackdays.

Fark

LOL LOL. Nope. He doesn't "like" me at all, just wants a shag and I said no back in the autumn (he did ask why not him   I wasn't honest, just said I liked someone else, which was true, just not the whole truth !!! )

So basically, he's interacting possibly because he thinks I won't be able to resist eventually (even though he knows who my OH is  )

Either way, he's still a dick !!!

Parking fucking eye and their racketeering. :angry-cussingblack:

I stopped in a "hotel" car-park on Friday afternoon for 30 minutes to meetup with v8-powered briefly, and I didn't notice the fact that the car-park was a ParkingEye heist location. I've had another look on Google Street view, and there ARE notices in the car park (I can't read them on the Street-view photos), but they're really quite small, and tucked away at the far end of the parking area I was in. GAH!

Just got the invoice through today : £100, "discounted" to £60 if I pay up within 14 days. feck feck feck.

I've been trying to remember if I paid up to them last time I got caught. I usually make sure I stay well away from these shysters and refuse to do business with any company that uses them (or similar companies).

@v8-powered you may want to keep an eye on your postbox, we've probably both been done. :(

Anyone know the latest advice for this situation?

Dispute it, claim you were a visitor to the hotel or somesuch.

Even if you end up having to pay you'll have reduced their profit.

I just assume that every car park is a paid car park until I can prove otherwise these days.

Decided to try and be a bit healthier so switched to gluten free wraps instead of bread only to find the hard way that the buggers use chickpea flour and pea protein in the recipe (which I am also intolerant of!)

@Rockburner @v8-powered

If you have the time and energy (and sufficient indignation), you may be able to contest it.

There are 'things' they're supposed to do, but don't always. Such as IIRC your vehicle images having visible timestamps, or similar.

There are examples online of what to write.

It is all based on Contract Law. The notices must be clearly visible so if you didn't see them they weren't visible enough so no contract.
You can appeal, but that is mostly cosmetic, most of them fail.
The almost foolproof get out is to offer them 'reasonsble' recompense, say £5 or'£10. They will refuse and send dozens of letters. Ignore them all until they send one from their tame solicitor threatening to take you to court. Reply to that telling them you will dispute their bill (by now it will be several £00) and see them in court. They will bluster and threaten but are unlikely to issue court paperwork. If they do it will be somewhere near them, use the court processes to transfer it to somewhere near you. 99+% they will not turn up and you win by default. If by chance they do, explain to the judge you didn't see the notice. 90% chance he will throw the case out. Worst case if you lose you will have to pay £100. Legal costs CANNOT be recovered in the Small Claims track of the County Court.

I'd happily pay £1000 NOT to put up with all that shit, paying £60 to not put up with all that shit is fine.

yes - and I know that's their business case, but I look at it like this: in this instance, I've paid a punishment of £60 for poor obs and ignoring the signs I did see that merely said something abstract about registering in the reception, I didn't twig the ParkingEye signs: that's on me, and I'll suffer that minor indignity and (hopefully) learn from it.

FFS - trying to send a load of documents to a rental agent. All stuff I am sure I have scanned previously (apart from the most recent payslip - could I sodding well find all this stuff?? Nope, I could not.

I've spent an hour going over and over the paperwork I have here and nothing . FFS

Then, in the back of my mind, I thought - I put everything together to take to the housing office or an agent last week.

Yup, the sodding folder was in my work bag the whole bastard time :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

Have now scanned the missing info, found the stuff I had scanned and sent the email.

But, FFS - so much for an early night before I get up at 5am tomorrow

Was also supposed to be checking the route I will be doing tomorrow (new to me and is one I learnt with the guy that thought he knew everything but didn't !!!) - oh well, guess I'll be winging it again
