Ordered 10 velvet dining room chairs from a fairly well-known online furniture retailer.

Having waited about 10 weeks for them to arrive, it is a little disappointing that six of them have marks on them and are going to be sent back.

I do Insta, draw the sodding line at Facebook reels though, I just wish both would recognise when the content isn't being consumed on a tiny 7" mobile screen and and resize for a proper display, or at least work properly.

IT's worse when they chop down a landscape video to fit portrait.

I just received a text, purportedly from DWP - "Government Energy Allowance Notice:

"In light of the increase in energy prices, you have been formally recognised as eligible to apply for a household grant of £200-£300...." etc.

It includes a link which goes to a reasonably convincing fake government website if I click it on the phone. If I put the link into a browser on my laptop it takes me to an expensive shoe shop.

The genuine ,gov.uk site says: "You do not need to do anything - payments will be made automatically."

If you have elderly relatives who might not be as computer literate as you would like, please make sure they know they don't have to claim the winter fuel allowance, even if they get a text saying they do.

I hate these scamming bastards.

My mate got one of those texts that says, 'Dad, it's me. I've changed numbers. Click on this link to automatically update your contacts...'. He said to me, 'I was just about to click it then suddenly remembered I didn't have any kids!'

Effing Google search!

Trying to find someone to do a very specific building job, and all I get is Checkatrade and about 100 other intermediaries, followed (several pages deep) by specialist firms in bloody Texas and Illionois.

As per another thread, I've actually got pretty good results with that sort of thing using AI.

You still have to check etc obviously, but you can tell the AI in plain English "no not that, I meant that tune which goes do dee daaa, the one from the old crisps advert" and it actually turns it into something useful to Google.

I'll usually search on Google maps for things like that, for me it cuts out the intermediaries and you know where they are based.

For maybe 15 years "just Google it" was a legitimate solution.

Now all it does is try to sell you stuff that is spelt a little bit like one of the words in your question.

As above though. I use chat gpt now and find it very effective.

I find Chat gpt untrustworthy, it takes bad information and rewords it to sound more convincing.
Duck duck go removes the misleading adverts and gives me a choice of websites I can judge for myself.

I wouldn't advise taking ChatGPT at it's word, but it's very useful for turning big long natural language descriptions of stuff into a useful search.

Sometimes the challenge is knowing what to search, or just not knowing that a certain thing exists and that you can search for it.

Yes.

I've found technologies/products which I didn't even know existed before through talking to it about something I'm looking for, or asking for research which has been done on a subject.

Its almost like asking a an expert, or even just someone with different experience, what you should search for. Or just like asking on a forum!

I'm not sure where to put this but it has seriously boiled my piss (just what I need as I head to bed to try and sleep!!)

A mate here struggles a bit with some stuff here, he's my age and learning the language is harder as yr older. He works really hard to integrate and has made some friends in a car club - he's got an old Capri, his pride and joy

I got a message from him about an hour ago - some fucktard biker was going too fast, lost control and slid into Simon's Capri, went over the bonnet and ended up with an open leg fracture.

Simon is just beating himself up madly because all he can see is the body flying over his bonnet and then the open fracture (think the guy was unconscious for a time, not sure Si saw him conscious but has been told he's had his leg sorted and is in hospital)

The police have told him that that road (haven't worked out exactly where he was yet) is known for fast bikes and bike accidents and there was a witness that was also a biker who made it clear to S that it wasn't his fault and the biker guy was crazy

Gutted for Simon as his Capri is apparently a write off and his beating himself up despite not being remotely responsible

A motor bike, going too fast, lost control on the corner came on my side of the road and hit me at speed. I'm ok.

He's got an open fracture to his leg but ok and in hospital.

Capri is written off.

Been with the gendarme for three hours.

Witnesses back me up as i wasn't going fast (40 in a 70 zone).

Police said there are lots of speeding bikes on the road because of the weather.

Still in shock.

In shock still. Thought I'd killed him. Can still see him flying over my car and his open wound.

Have a motor bike witness who saw it all and said the other guy was crazy. He told me not to worry, it was not my fault. Just remembered that. He directed the traffic until the police came. Really hope the police got his details!
