Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
I think I've been had to the tune of £80.
While in Wales last weekend I stopped at the very picturesque Ty'n y Cornel Hotel, Tal-y-llyn and bought two soft drinks using a contactless payment for £8. I wasn't offered a receipt (not that I'd have taken it) and the card machine was presented to me without showing me the value. Not that I clocked any of that at the time. When I checked my bank yesterday I'd been charged £88. I phoned them yesterday morning, they said that they had found the transaction and would check it out and phone me back. They didn't phone me back so I phoned them at 5pm and was told again that they were looking into it and would phone me back. Still no call back.
What do you recon the chances are of them phoning me back?
Has anyone had a similar experience and what was the outcome?

There only really one option open to you, burn the place to the ground.
It won't get your £80 back, unless you rob the place first.

If business is so bad they're reduced to thieving they'll probably pay £80 to burn it down for the insurance.KungFooBob wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 8:51 am There only really one option open to you, burn the place to the ground.

Contactless payments, not checking the amount, not asking for a receipt...
Blundering about trying not to make too much of a hash of things.

I paid £3.90 for a cup of hot milk masquerading as a cappuccino this morning. Didn't even clock the amount until I happened to be in my banking app.Lutin wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 9:32 am Contactless payments, not checking the amount, not asking for a receipt...
Three-quid-fucking-ninety for a mediocre coffee.

First port of call would be the bank. Dispute the transaction. They can withdraw the credit to the merchant, which should get their attention.Trinity765 wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 8:37 am

Failing that, Google review first, then as many review sites as you can be arsed to visit.

Maybe give them 24h to sort it out before going on-line nuclear? Could just have been finger trouble/sloppiness and now waiting for whoever served you to come on shift again etc.
If they don't sort it today though....

I'd politely tell, them that if it isn't refunded by the end of the day, you'll have no option but to report it to your bank as a fraudulent transaction, which it is.Trinity765 wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 8:37 am I think I've been had to the tune of £80.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
This was the pub that was all over the news last year as it was flooded. I am wondering if they are making up for the shortfall in the insurance payout. I have spoken to them today (a repeat of yesterday's call) and spoken with my bank who have said that I have to give them 15 days. Not that they can do anything after that other than ask again nicely.

In fairness, we use the new card machines at work...Clover as I remember. The job involves walking up and down Marine Parade in W.S.M., and selling parking tickets..either 7 quid or 14....as you walk around the screen often presents multiples of those numbers or random ones....anything over a hundred quid (I don't have a pound sign on this keyboard) won't go through, but 88 pounds is understandable....it is a simple mistake, but ring them back , be patient but persistent....if they don't refund the balance I would be stirring poo up on every available social media platform....

Smart motorways. Called that because the stones in the tarmac have more intelligence than the people who work them. 15 miles of reduced limit because of a possible broken down vehicle. For once there was one, on the other carriageway.

Probably they put up a 'Report of ... ' message on the signs. They will only narrow restrictions down to the more local area once the exact location has been confirmed.
