Oh and while I'm at it why are Garden Offices so expensive, you can buy a fully fitted static caravan for 18k that's twice the size with kitchen, bathroom the lot.

Why does a basic wooden box with a sliding door have to cost £10k ?

Fucking conveyancing solicitors (again).

Due to the abject incompetence of the bunch of fuckwits my daughter is paying a none too inconsiderable sum, she won’t be completing on her new home tomorrow for the 4th week on the bounce. This week’s clusterfuck of an excuse is the Help to Buy funds haven’t arrived and it transpires they didn’t apply for it correctly, so that is another 5 working days...

Daughter is none too pleased (as you can imagine), especially as it was the firm’s legal secretary (her mate) who broke the news rather the feckless solicitor, spineless fucker. Law graduate daughter has gone chapter and verse on their ‘client care’ letter and SRA Code of Conduct in a complaint so we’ll see if they turn matters around and can pull it out of the bag to either complete or let them move in tomorrow.

Thankfully the developer is being wonderful and allowing her to move all of her clobber in and get square prior to actually owning the place.

Oooo I'm really annoyed :angry-cussingblack:

Looking at my bank statement this morning I noticed a payment of £5.95 to Vehicleinfo, Windsor. I think I've seen that payment before and thought it was the road tax for my bike but as last month I renewed my taxes and insurances this time I questioned it. A little hunt around the internet and I find out, although it's legal, it's actually very scammish.

I phoned my bank who, as you may already be aware, can't stop a monthly payment from my card. I could see three monthly payments but needed to go though statements to find the rest. I phoned Vehicle Info, who actually answered and said "We're sorry you want to cancel your subscription and we'll refund the three months". They emailed to confirm. I went through my bank statements and the payments go back to August. Emailed them back and asked for the rest.

The services they provide are vehicle history, tax, MOT etc and the reg they had on file for me was my Street Triple which I bought new. I asked them why I would need the history for a vehicle that I've been the only keeper of

I have no idea how this happened and my anger is mostly due to the fact that I thought I was internet payment savvy and obviously I'm not.

Check your statements for vehicleinfo, Windsor. It would seem that most people pay what they think is a 50p payment to check their tax but then pay £5.95 until they challenge it. Having said that, I don't remember paying 50p for anything.

Why are they (not those ones specifically, more like 'they' as a group) so bad? I read so many stories like that in the uk and they are at least matched by similar over here

I don't understand how they can be so bad and still be in business :( :(

Hope the letter gets some action and that your daughter gets some sort of compensation

I think I'd be making a call to Trading Standards. It may be legal but it seems a bit . . . underhand.

And you don't need to pay for a tax or insurance check.

Reading on Trustpilot, it seems that users inadvertently select their site (instead of DVLA) when renewing vehicle tax. It 'simply' adds a 50p handling fee, but T&Cs sign the user up.

Response so far has been:

Managing Partner - I’m in court but I’ve instructed X to call you straight away
X, 90 mins later - I thought you preferred to deal with your friend, I’ve done everything I can, treated your case as a priority, can’t understand why you are complaining
Daughter - 5 months to complete simplest transaction a month later than agreed, get me in my house today even if you have to pay the balance yourself

Daughter is awaiting call from managing partner.

As for why conveyancing is so shit, I have a number of theories:

1. It has been a race to the bottom in a pricing battle with large companies that stack high, sell cheap and offer shit service and small firms don’t want to lose out
2. It is the job in the firm given to the shittest member of the team / tagged onto someone else for extras, so has low priority against other work
3. The process is actually fucked and needs overhauling which won’t happen as those with a vested interest don’t want it to happen.

Over the years I’ve had stand up rows with many conveyancing solicitors who just don’t give a fuck, have no understanding of the importance of the transaction to their client or are simply not commercial in their approach.

It does seem to need a complete overhaul - my friends that have had issues seem to have the issues with conveyancing (I'm sure there are others too). Kinda glad I didn't have to deal with all that!

Hope the senior partner has a better response!!

Fuckwit X is still being a fuckwit, managing partner has since addressed concerns and kicked arse but as the missing part of the jigsaw comes from the government the sale can’t complete fully until next week because fuckwit didn’t request funds correctly.

It looks like the developer will, with the appropriate legal undertakings in place, allow daughter to move in today with 80% of the cash payable now and balance from government next week.

Still a fucking shit show though.

I haven't been able to change my UK driving licence for a French one. I have tried but no go. Now we are all waiting until the reciprocal agreement is signed to enable the direct exchange to happen

I need to hire a car and have just realised that with a UK licence and no way to get and international permit I'm probably screwed

It's not been possible to exchange here for the last 2-3 years. You couldn't change if you had longer than 6 weeks validity on your photocard licence.

I should have been able to as I drove for work but they sent my application back as I had more than 6 weeks on it

In Late Nov/early Dec they started a new online system to exchange but asked that people not overload the system by everyone applying at once. So, since I can't work, I waited with a plan to do it in Jan/Feb.

6th Jan it was 'realised' that no reciprocal agreement had been signed/arranged. So currently, anyone who didn't apply on the new online system has to wait to see if a reciprocal agreement is signed or if we all have to take all our entitlements again :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

My mate in France is caught in the same limbo. He initiated the request 18 m9nths ago, the authorities but it on hold / go slow, now are waiting for the mutual exchange to be agreed.
