Oh that's brilliant, no no honestly, it's really good.
I know you post that a lot but you should post it even more, people will find it really funny.

[sigh] I think I've outgrown this bollocks to be honest.

Our cleaners are really good like that, everything always goes back where it was.
We get ‘looks’ when we mention having cleaners, especially from my family, but we both work full time have 2 kids and it’s less than £100 a month and means we don’t have to spend the weekend doing it.

you posey snobby fucker.

I thought you were a proud northerner

 :1
I know you're on a wind up but it's a shame that some people in the UK have actually been conditioned to think like this.

I heard a story about a guy that goes every day to the barbers to get a shave, and his friend asked him why he didn't buy razors so he could do it himself and save a load of money. The guy responded that he makes his living and he feels that it's his responsibility to help the barber make his too.

I don't need a maid, I can hoover my own house, I'm no one important and even if I was no one is important enough not to make their own bed, but the maid needs to earn a living, so does the gardener, so does the bloke that washes my car every morning, etc.
I tip the bloke that puts petrol in my car even though I could do it myself and save the tip.

Next time you see an advert or a bloke knocks on the door to ask if you want your garden doing, consider that he might actually be going under and needs the work, rather than thinking that you'll do it yourself and not share the money around. And if he doesn't do it perfectly you can still pay him and have a moan about it on here.

You bunch of miserable scroogey bastards.
I do believe, you've taken that far too seriously.

Been a good day here. Got the bedding washed, did some exercise, went to the post office and collected a parcel from Holland (air rifle bits) which I paid 40 TL tax on. You might think that's not so good but the company in Holland put the value of the package at 19 Euro instead of it's actual value (or what I paid) of 105 Euro. It's not the first time they've done that. I quite like the Dutch.

I also picked up 2 letters from the Inland Revenue or whatever they call themselves these days, one of which contained a check for £881 tax rebate. Of course, it's my money they're just giving back but I'll not complain especially with the current rate of exchange. This evening I've had a couple of beers with friends who are heading home to the UK tomorrow and a bit later I'll probably watch a film on my new TV.

The weather is cooling off nicely now and life is pretty good. Almost time to start boat works.

Pissing down today at work, plus the side of the hotel I'm working on doesn't have any gutters so any rain that hit the roof got funnelled down to us.

So, worked from half seven to twelve and then bombed it right off.

I have started digging a hole, the back of my garden is about 3' above the patio and I want to put a retaining wall in and level it off. After some Googled geology lessons I discover I have about 1' of top soil, then 18" of silt and I don't know how deep of clay. If it's going to work how I want it to I need to dig a big 3' deep hole with a post hole down to 6'. I have made it about 6" into the silt and it feels like concrete, if I tip water in to soften the soil it just sits there in a puddle and maybe softens up the top inch which then weighs as much as concrete when I shovel it out.
This is meant to be a slow project over the winter and I decided to do it by hand to get some excercise whilst working from home but I think I may have aimed a bit high, lets see how long it takes to get to 6'. If I don't get through the clay by then I may just dig out a pool shaped hole and fill it with water, knowing my luck the last shovel blow will break through and I'll create a future sink hole.
Current digging tools are a rabbiting spade and a mattock, both of which hardly scratch the surface when dry.
Most power tools are out, an auger small enough to fit through the gate will only succeed in breaking my arms and a small enough backhoe will probably do little more than kiss it. If I'm still struggling by next summer I may try an electric breaker with a chisel, then if I get really desperate I'll give up, level the terrace and put a simple 18" high block wall at the back.

At long last, like about 12-18 months I've been watching a Red Kite near home. Soaring high above us with three buzzards nearby as well. I have heard that buzzards will chase Kites away but not today! It pleases me no end to see these once near-extinct birds, the Kites, not the buzzards, flying around here but wish they would appear more regularly! We have seen five or more in one go on occasion and wish that I ould spot where they are nesting! :shhh:
