Few years back now i got pulled for 70 through empty 50mph roadworks at 3am and i was the only car on the road apart from the hidden police car. Reason being i was at work as a keyholder at the time rushing to attend a fire alarm what the fire brigade was in attendance. Was plod interested? Not a hope of a chance. By the time i git there the fire brigade had gone and the alarm had rung itself out.Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 11:50 pm M27
Will they ever stop pissing about with it!
Just driven w-bound on it at 50 mph for miles on a deserted road.
Has nobody thought of '50mph when the workforce are there 8-5'.

Not just the Mways. A30 yesterday (on a new bit allegedly complete and open). 50mph limit, then 2 lanes into 1, a mile or two like that, then an incoming lane has to insert it's traffic into the one lane, followed by 1/2 a mile of single lane, followed by .............nothing No works, no vehicles, no workmen obviously. Just miles of standing traffic and a raft of pissed-off drivers.Horse wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 2:20 amYesSadlonelygit wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 11:50 pm M27

I'd guess: Contractor 1 sets up the cones for Contractor 2 to come and clean the surfaces down, so that Contractor 3, 4 and 5 can come and do the various bits of work.
however: Although Contractor 1 has done their bit, Contractor 3 is running late on something else (overbooked/under-staffed, whatever), so Contractor 2 has changed their schedule and been delayed on that other job, so Contractor 4 and 5 are also pissed off and not likely to respond with alacrity when Contractor 3 finally turns up and does their bit. None of this is helped by the overall Contractor's main scheduling administrator being off on maternity leave, so they've got the bosses idiot man-child step-son in as a temp and he's useless.
Or something.
Just part of the general enshitification of modern life, you've got just get on with your own life and accept it.
Still extremely frustrating I agree.

Scaffolders.
Due here this morning at 0830 to put up the smallest bit of scaffold so that Octopus don’t have to spend 20 minutes working off a ladder at head height.
Unsurprisingly it’s now 1345 and still no scaffolders. No one at Octopus can help, as the team dealing are on holiday!! What, all of them ffs!
Made me get up early too, barstewards!

@Rockburner often with the added complication that there will often be effort to do as much work as possible in a closure to avoid multiple closures.Rockburner wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 11:55 amCousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 11:37 amNot just the Mways. @Cousin Jack if that's the Yeovil - Sparkford section, then there's still loads of off-carriageway works to complete.
@MrLongbeard the 'out of sight' signs are sometimes used when bridge works are being done.

If it's safe to do 60 even when there are roadworks why can't we do over 70 when the road is clear. Especially now we have smart motorways that could work out there is no traffic at 6am on a Sunday so increase to 80 and reduce to 50 it at 8 on a Monday when everyone is driving up each others arse.Horse wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 2:20 amYesSadlonelygit wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 11:50 pm M27

With that set of roadworks projects, a lot of the work was related to the capabilities of the barriers Vs kinetic energy of a faster vehicle.

When you're working up town, but the people you're meeting for a night out ain't gonna be there 'til after 6.30pm.
Do you hang around in the office minutely adjusting everybody's office chair and desk height, just to piss them off on Monday morning?
or
Head over to a pub and sit like Billy No Mates until your gang turn up?
or
Other options?

I was in a similar situation but with a group of people I'd not met so I headed to the place to have a drink and read my book. I settled in at the only empty place at the bar with enough to read by. A group of people surrounded me, started talking and glaring at me for being the way. Then the one person I knew in the group turned up and introduced to the people talking and glaring.

Sounds like what happens on virtually every VD/TRC/RTTL* drinks evening... * have we had any RTTL drinks evenings yet?
