I like that thread.
No matter how bad my day has been, no matter the stress of modern life and pressure of the daily grind, I can log on, read a few of the posts and think, 'Well, at least I'm re-posting bat-shit crazy conspiracy theories lifted from Twitter and claiming them as proven fact and then arguing to the nth degree about a minor point of grammar that may or may not prove the point you made four pages back'.

Embrace it.
Nah, sorry... i'm not feeling it. It's pathetic, like on a scale i can't even comprehend. Oh i wish for the ability to ignore threads.
Delete the thread if it bothers you that much? I started the thread and certainly wouldn't be bothered if you did. Delete the whole section if you want. I found out that nice people up here got sensitive and shouty down there! First time i've ever used the ignore function! I never used to even venture down here but it gets quiet up here at times, so I went to see what the fuss was all about! :D

Mrs Taipan always says to never discuss politics and money...
Nah mate, i've deleted enough this year with the loss of he who must not be named.

If we all start using his name will you have to go on another deleting spree?

Should have been in court as a witness on Monday at 09:45. That got cancelled and Tuesday afternoon at 15:19 i get an email to be in the next morning (today) at 09:45. OK its a ball ache due to trek into Edinburgh and no parking and the fecking LEZ zone. Got in early to make sure we are in the correct area of the court. Sat in the witness room for 10:15 to say we wont be long and i will be called around 11am. Try 12:30 and only for a half hour as the man in the wig wanted his fucking lunch. Back in at 14:10 to finish questioning. Wife's turn. In at 14:50 and out at 15:10 as the man in the wig wanted a fucking tea break :wtf: 15:30 wife is back in and out again for 15:40 :o Could the cunts not work out the breaks a bit better. Could they not have even just stuck with the original day. The one where i took time off for and the babby sitter (wife) had to find a baby sitter.

Talking LEZ zone. This is George IV Bridge at 09:30. You could not see the road from cars, vans, busses before LEZ started. The building up the street is the corner with the Royal Mile. The whole area is almost a Ghost town now. All the Tackie tourist shops were shut and it looked like the only one making money was a couple of cafes. Even the Edinburgh Museum on Chambers street was shut.

Just driven w-bound on it at 50 mph for miles on a deserted road.
Has nobody thought of '50mph when the workforce are there 8-5'.

Few years back now i got pulled for 70 through empty 50mph roadworks at 3am and i was the only car on the road apart from the hidden police car. Reason being i was at work as a keyholder at the time rushing to attend a fire alarm what the fire brigade was in attendance. Was plod interested? Not a hope of a chance. By the time i git there the fire brigade had gone and the alarm had rung itself out.

Not just the Mways. A30 yesterday (on a new bit allegedly complete and open). 50mph limit, then 2 lanes into 1, a mile or two like that, then an incoming lane has to insert it's traffic into the one lane, followed by 1/2 a mile of single lane, followed by .............nothing No works, no vehicles, no workmen obviously. Just miles of standing traffic and a raft of pissed-off drivers.

I'd guess: Contractor 1 sets up the cones for Contractor 2 to come and clean the surfaces down, so that Contractor 3, 4 and 5 can come and do the various bits of work.

however: Although Contractor 1 has done their bit, Contractor 3 is running late on something else (overbooked/under-staffed, whatever), so Contractor 2 has changed their schedule and been delayed on that other job, so Contractor 4 and 5 are also pissed off and not likely to respond with alacrity when Contractor 3 finally turns up and does their bit. None of this is helped by the overall Contractor's main scheduling administrator being off on maternity leave, so they've got the bosses idiot man-child step-son in as a temp and he's useless.

Or something.

Just part of the general enshitification of modern life, you've got just get on with your own life and accept it.

Still extremely frustrating I agree.

Scaffolders.
Due here this morning at 0830 to put up the smallest bit of scaffold so that Octopus don’t have to spend 20 minutes working off a ladder at head height.
Unsurprisingly it’s now 1345 and still no scaffolders. No one at Octopus can help, as the team dealing are on holiday!! What, all of them ffs!
Made me get up early too, barstewards!

@Rockburner often with the added complication that there will often be effort to do as much work as possible in a closure to avoid multiple closures.

@Cousin Jack if that's the Yeovil - Sparkford section, then there's still loads of off-carriageway works to complete.

@MrLongbeard the 'out of sight' signs are sometimes used when bridge works are being done.

If it's safe to do 60 even when there are roadworks why can't we do over 70 when the road is clear. Especially now we have smart motorways that could work out there is no traffic at 6am on a Sunday so increase to 80 and reduce to 50 it at 8 on a Monday when everyone is driving up each others arse.

No idea.

With that set of roadworks projects, a lot of the work was related to the capabilities of the barriers Vs kinetic energy of a faster vehicle.

When you're working up town, but the people you're meeting for a night out ain't gonna be there 'til after 6.30pm.

Do you hang around in the office minutely adjusting everybody's office chair and desk height, just to piss them off on Monday morning?

or

Head over to a pub and sit like Billy No Mates until your gang turn up?

or

Other options?
