Looking at the seller feedback I don't think I'd even commit the money for a Timex to them.

Yup. The 'secret' compass...that you had to take your shoe off to look at.

I particularly like the 'perspiration-proof' linings.

They were jolly expensive cf other shoes for youngsters.

(My missus remembers when the local - big - Co-op still used to X-ray* kids feet as part of the fitting process. ).

As skint as we were as a family, my Mum always paid out for Clarks shoes and had out feet measured each time in one of them thar things below. My darned socks always slipped into decent shoes!

Bit of a derail...

I recall taking the Gremlinette to Clarkes many times, having her feet diligently measured and forking out for it.

One time I went in and went through the rigmarole only to be told they didn't have them in her size/width.
'Have the next size up', said the bloke, 'It doesn't really matter, all this measuring stuff'.

I left, got her a pair of shoes from JL and never went back.

I know nothing about watches I'm afraid so am looking for some simple advice. I've always wanted an omega speedmaster moon watch due to the way they look and the association with the moon landing. I don't collect or own any watches and this would be my only watch and I'd be wearing it on a daily basis (while looking after it and servicing it). It represents a chunk of money that I can afford to spend but not to throw away. Would a 2022 speedmaster in as new condition for £4500 be something I'd be likely to be able to get most of my money back on should the need arise in the unlikely event that I need the money? Thanks.

Probably OK, but no guarantees. Watch prices have been silly recently, IMO dragged up by comparison with Rolex where second hand prices were artificial since you couldn't buy new.

In a few years it is quite possible watches will be passe, and people will only buy one cheap and reliable watch. Yours would then be worth a few hundred at best.

The other thing to beware of is fakes. Some are extremely good, and if they can fake a watch the box and papers are not a problem. Can you trust the seller?

Put a couple of offers in and settled on £4400. This is for 2022 version of the stock before the latest change so this has the 1861 movement. Never been worn, still has the protective stickers and the box and all the bits and bobs.

Not a watch guy at all. Most I’ve spent before is about £100. Born in 68 and been fascinated by the moon landings for all long as I remember and wanted this watch because of that for many years. Appreciate the link is somewhat stretched over time but I don’t care.
