Can't go coil on this bike, both from a clearance perspective and also how the suspension curve works on it

? - it's only going to be some sort of rising rate and that's generally doable with coil.
I get the clearance thing, that mounting means it runs very close to the frame.

That's grounds for a new bike then.

Re: Whyte G-160, the big bad bouncy thing!
Cotic FS do absolutely nothing at all for me, they're ugly fuckers for sure.
Well maybe ugly is a bit harsh, but they're not light... They're not that pretty and i've no idea how they ride. At least with Specialized you know exactly where you are and what you're getting. The Cotic ain't cheap either....
However, i still love the G-160 despite it's quirks in shocks...

Re: Whyte G-160, the big bad bouncy thing!
I've gone back to the Monarch RC3+. Despite it having clearance issues on the frame/bottle context, it's the best shock i've used so that's going back in there.
The PoS i bought yesterday has been lobbed on Ebay at a loss. But with an honest description at least.

What did I miss? What was wrong with the shock you bought yesterday?weeksy wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 7:30 am I've gone back to the Monarch RC3+. Despite it having clearance issues on the frame/bottle context, it's the best shock i've used so that's going back in there.

Re: Whyte G-160, the big bad bouncy thing!
slurp slurp. I tried it in the car-park but it seemed there was a tiny noise, but it was a busy road... Got it home and tried it... it was horribly noisy.Beancounter wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 12:43 pmWhat did I miss? SO here's where i am with the dilemma..
1. Rockshox Monarch R (shock that came with the bike standard), this suffers from squatting down.
2. Rockshox RCT (the one i picked up yesterday) noisy and slurpy.
3. Rockshocx RC3+ lack of bottle carrying ability (£430, ordered new from Tredz, not on way yet)
I've put yesterdays RCT up on Ebay at a £40 loss, but no offers currently. The Monarch R has been in the spares box for many months due to squatting.
I can send both the Monarch R and RCT to sprung suspension and hope 1 of them comes back working. It'll cost me £114 if i get one back working.
I could then send the RC3+ back to Tredz unused and new.
If i keep the RC3+ and run it, it's under warranty of course...
I just want a bike that works properly LOL.

Re: Whyte G-160, the big bad bouncy thing!
Is rear shock destruction a common issue on Whyte bike ( linkage / ratios / etc). Or do you just do something to them out of the ordinary?
Time to buy a Privateer and start doing enduro

Re: Whyte G-160, the big bad bouncy thing!
Hmmm there's a question. Yoke based setups can be a bit flakey. But either I've been unfortunate or a few poor purchase decisions, maybe a bit of both to an extent.
The G160 is only designed to run Monarchs, to get anything else to fit you have to file the Yoke a bit. But really I shouldn't be quite as unfortunate as I've been.
The RC3+ has been shipped by Tredz now, so worst case I do have a good shock arriving. If a little expensive an option. But I'd like one of the others as spare just in case for sure.
