What I am genuinely surprised about is the realisation over the last decade or so that you totally cannot trust the BBC, I grew up believing that they reported actual news, not lies. And the surprise that there are lots (and lots) of people that believe everything they say.
Maybe back in the day they were actually more a voice of reason than they are now.
back when the BBC and News at 10 were a big thing, did they sit on opposite sides in politics ?
Lots of news going around about this, she was asked to remove the hat whilst she walked through the security checks, just like you would at an airport, that's all, she would have been free to put it back on afterwards.
You can see the guy at the beginning of the video give the hand symbol to stop and he asks her to stop and take the hat of before she walks through the detectors, she ignores him, then refuses to take it off.
I'd challenge any of you to try that at any UK airport and it will get you held back as well.
Do any of you actually believe you would be stopped just for wearing a coloured hat
She wore it during the match.

I'm at work watching Argentina with someone who is actually gay and thinks this hat protest stuff is pathetic.
Not every gay person is a militant hat wearing attention monkey.
But that only makes them right for themselves, not for others. The one thing we've deffo learned is that the world won't fix itself without anyone doing something. Going back to women getting the vote, burning Bras, racism, culturism, it all needs someone somewhere to stand up and make a difference, clearly it's not the guy you're sitting next to... but if no-one does, things won't change.
I see it in my lad/mates all the time, they don't see 'people' how we as grown ups do... and this is a VERY good thing indeed.

To put this armband stuff into perspective ...
Honestly, we need a false news checker in this section, there are people hanging about in here that will believe this stuff if it's left unabated.
Google Suzzane Moore and make up your own mind whether you can trust her.
Posting left wing ideology with right wing ferverism is usually somewhere in the realms of fascism.
People are not taken in by the well worn tactic of trying to dismiss the message by dismissing the messenger.
Getting "left wing ideology", "right wing feverism", and "fascism" in at the same time is

Not necessarily lies, but rather reporting tenuous and arguable nonsense, something you might smirk at on social media. But when you see it on a legit news source you naturally engage with it, it's mere existence as a news report gives it some credibility. I don't see the hat thing as an agenda, it's just some bollocks they think folk might be interested in, they're not bothering to investigate it, it's just bollocks pub talk in that case which has no place being on The News.
I recall thinking the same thing about The Times, when it started to heavily feature unsubstantiated opinion rather than fact and being mildly disgusted. It's even worse when a 'proper news source' does it because you feel slightly betrayed. And it gives credence to the naysayers, the rubbish journalists who state stuff "that they reckon" as fact, those that will now assume that the Beeb is now total crap because they've pandered to the bottom feeders in the spirit of fairness.

Happy days, lets hope we don't see any more anti-trans filth on this forum then

Im a great believer when in strange lands is respecting the Laws and Culture. Me thinks Rainbow hat people are just trying to be provocative.
Which is why it should never have been held there. It's a massive culture clash. Did anyone think this would end well? Money talks...
Just watching the news and foreign broadcasters are being interuppted by Police if they're broadcasting whilst wearing a rainbow armband.

But it is there. Go or dont is the choice but go with your trendy rainbow hat, scarf or arm band then dont be looking for sympathy if it ends bad for you.
I'm a Guardian-reading, left leaning, short haired old hippie and I'm revulsed by the way the Arab Emirates treat women, gays, migrant workers - the whole nine yards. For that reason the only way I would (or have) ever visited any of those states is as a stop off point in a long-haul flight to Asia or Aus/NZ.
But if you choose out of your own free will to visit there, for whatever reason, you obey the local fucking laws. It really isn't difficult. You go to a place like that knowing full well how they treat dissidents or people with a different orientation to their prescribed preferences and if you have a working brain cell you obey the local fucking laws. If you choose to 'make a stand' then you really shouldn't be surprised or indignant that your liberty is very rapidly curtailed or, in extreme cases, incarceration or severe physical pain is visited upon you.
Yes, FIFA were a bunch of cynical money-grubbing twats to accept massive amounts of wonga to host a WC in Qatar, but it really isn't like they don't have previous. If you have a problem with that, don't fucking go there, don't support it. Like I say, it really isn't difficult.

Would we expect Qataris to park their beliefs and customs at Dover or Heathrow if invited here for a world event? Tell their wimmen to take their Burquas off? No of course we wouldn't. No one should host a worldwide event if you can't accommodate your invited guests and their beliefs. But that was never going to happen. They are a bunch of backward fucks that are about 300 years behind the west, but Fifa knew that and still went ahead despite the obvious offence to the worldwide LGBTQ communities. Clusterfuck.
Im becoming fonder of the hat-wearing, armband-sporting general public defiance of the qatari rules. If FIFA, FA and the teams won't do it, then take it to the streets - make it bad publicity while the football rolls on.

Err....
BTW homosexuality has only been legal in England since the 60s and raping your own wife has only (explicitly) been a crime since the 90s.
So maybe our high horse only has medium length legs?
How on earth can you try and align the UK with somewhere like Qatar! The UK is progressive in all of its actions from everything from sexual equality to trade union negotiated T&Cs in the workplace. Now have a look at HRW and Amnesty etc and see how Qatar measures up!
Like I said, people that were there reported that she wore it during the match and it was not confiscated (as previously reported and now deleted by the BBC), which she now confirms.
She was asked to remove it during a routine security check, she refused to take it off during the search to try and make a statement, and was held back because of that, like you would in an airport anywhere else in the world.
Reports that she was told she couldn't wear it during the game are false news, and claims that it was confiscated are false news.
Claims that she "smuggled" it in are laughable, once she'd made her statement she simply carried it in and put it back on.
I'm making no comment on anything else, but in an environment like this forum where some of you are easily had over by a bit of really shit and obviously false propaganda then it's important to point out false news that is generated to champion one cause at the expense of prejudice and racism towards another.
Don't be a sheep.
If you're there you're getting selective, biased news for sure. Don't be duped by it. Look at the worldwide news agencies and you'll see a lot more going on than a hat and anyway, she wasn't the only one with that problem. She is just a case in point about people entering the stadium with rainbow garments, hats etc

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
If you travel with your wife and/or daughters to Qatar, just "do as the Romans do", what could possibly go wrong?
Oh.

Again, just because it's in your face, on the News and on the Beeb, it doesn't mean it's a big deal. It doesn't mean the Beeb are agreeing with it or promoting it, it means that they've been given over a decent wedge of The News to reporting any old horseshit that they think their viewers might be interested in. They've been doing this for decades now, ''trying to be fair", but it just makes them look like the worst sort of conspiracy theorist.
The headline should be 'Qatar WC is actually pretty good, so far' but they'd rather turn it into 10 minutes of pub gossip.
Now if it was 500 England fans, storming the turnstiles all vajazzled up with rainbow glitter and bumming hats, then maybe that would be newsworthy. But a couple of bints with hat anecdotes? No.
