Could be. OTOH I might stick with the F. I like the colour.

Re: Almost ready - old codger on tour
I've just been looking at the current X on t'bay, it's a nice looking thing and they're pretty cheap.
The NCX is an option too, but I think the 500 looks more the part and according to reviews is more revvy like a proper motorcycle.

I idly wonder how useful a single disc up front will be.

Not as useful as a twin disc would be. It will stop, but it needs a very firm grip. I believe the 2022 version has a twin disc, but I have not seen it in the flesh.

Perhaps they deliberately underbraked the bike in case it was used off road.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:42 amNot as useful as a twin disc would be. It will stop, but it needs a very firm grip. I believe the 2022 version has a twin disc, but I have not seen it in the flesh.

Re: Almost ready - old codger on tour
Don't think so, all 3 versions (R, F, and X) use the same kit. I think they just built it down to a price, then realised they had pushed it a bit too far.Skub wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:43 amPerhaps they deliberately underbraked the bike in case it was used off road.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:42 amNot as useful as a twin disc would be. Re: Almost ready - old codger on tour
It's the same on the whole CB500 range, not just the X, iirc it's also the same brake setup on the NC750/S/X.
I had an NC700 which was a similar setup, but with a three pot sliding calliper rather than a two pot on the later bikes, it worked pretty well.

I do miss the VFR linked brakes, 2 fingers would do all you needed except for a full blooded 'oh shit'.

Re: Almost ready - old codger on tour
People dissed linked brakes on the Hondas, but I like them on my Varadero, the rear used to settle nicely into the corner without needing to touch the rear lever, just by pulling the front a bit.
My current GS has linked brakes too, but they're done electronically via the ECU/ABS pump rather than linked hydraulically.

The Blackbird linked brakes saved me more than once when I was learning to ride. I only delinked them as, after 7 years I knew I wanted something else and thought I should learn how to ride without link brakes!!KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:56 am People dissed linked brakes on the Hondas, but I like them on my Varadero, the rear used to settle nicely into the corner without needing to touch the rear lever, just by pulling the front a bit.

And finally, PICTURES! Hundreds of the bastards, fill your boots.

This is a compilation of all the photos everyone took on the tour, some good, some bad and most just plain ordinary. The edited version, with maybe 10-12 of the best will take a bit longer.

Looked like a great trip though...with plenty of those memory things.
