Well Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, Maserati, Cadillac etc. all made V8 saloons until very recently and people still managed to choose between them.

Likewise pretty much every super SUV out there has a twin turbo V8 and people manage to choose between those too.

So presumably it's not just the engine layout.

Besides, wasn't it out very own Taipan who thought his straight 4 merc was a V6? Certainly someone on here. That's where I started from, most people either can't tell or don't care.

It was indeed Moi. Always had it in my mind my old Merc was a straight six, but it was a straight 4.

I love the EV concept and the last thing I want is a characteristic of an ICE. I want it to be smooth and seamless. I've often rejetted/remapped bikes and tried various things to smooth out bikes as I dislike vibration, power dips, surging etc. I can't wait for an electric bike to be viable and affordable (purchase price) for my commute.

They used to be called just "Hybrids", but then people started making Plug-in Hybrids/Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles ("PHEVs"), so 'ordinary' Hybrids sounded worse. Slap the term "Self Charging" on the front though and suddenly it seems like you've got parity with the plug-ins! Which you haven't

I see what you mean, but in my mind it just highlights the deficit.
I really wish mine was a plug-in. The journeys we do, I'd never notice the petrol had gone stale.

The replacement for my CB300R will be all-electric too - if any of the Japanese makers pull their fingers out in time.

I think they are seriously behind the curve. I suspect India will be soon be the dominant supplier of PTWs. China are also building a lot of small capacity leccie bikes, but the Indians are taking it seriously - huge factories being built.

I always ask the owners some of whom are a bit smug about having a self charging car…..if you don’t fill it with fuel does it go ?

I'm in that majority. We have a Honda Fit self-charging hybrid (no socket to charge at home). I love when it's on electric-only, it's quiet and so smooth. When the petrol engine kicks in to charge the battery or run the AC, it always sounds a bit like it's broken or feels like it's vibrating badly, but turns out that's just what combustion engines do.

True dat. Every time the engine kicks and the fuel consumption monitor kicks in you feel a little disappointed and wish they'd changed the set-up so it stayed in electric mode longer. Eventually you just wish it stayed electric all the time.

(The best bit though is filling up a smallish tank and the car says 500+ milesworth available. ).
