It's about being realistic.
I guess that some riders see X distance, consider that plenty to complete the overtake - but don't consider that someone approaching from the opposite direction could have that distance. Possibly what happened in my video?
Then there's at least two other questions:
- is there anything ahead which could cause the driver to move or turn right?
- is there anywhere ahead where another vehicle could emerge?
