Re: In todays news...
I watched a Jeremy Bowen documentary on the Arab/Israeli conflict and at one point you had a Jew and an Arab arguing over who’s land it was and they went back to before Moses over who had it first so you’ll never get an agreement between the two groups, sadly, they’ll be fighting this conflict till then end of time.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 11:10 pmDo you think Israel are doing the right thing, they started it.

Israel will do loads of damage and kill loads of people in Gaza. That’s not a “right thing,” but Hamas must have wanted or at least expected it.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 11:10 pmDo you think Israel are doing the right thing, they started it.
What do you think should happen long term?

Re: In todays news...
There is no solution. As has been said, the state of Israel only came about after the Second World War and the area was partitioned. The Palestinians have had their freedoms significantly curtailed since then. Israelis regularly settle on land that does not belong to them and Palestinians are regularly and frequently killed. As with any apartheid or oppressive system, it’s always a matter of when it flares up, not if. Israel frequently employs the cry of anti semitism for critics of Israel which electively scares governments like the uk and the us from standing up to them even though the number of human rights condensations raised by the United Nations equals the country specific condemnations for every other country in the world added together.JackyJoll wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 8:38 amIsrael will do loads of damage and kill loads of people in Gaza. Re: In todays news...
We had the UN Israeli ambassador on TV this morning talking about Palestinians & sounding a lot like the way Nazi's talked about Jews... & sounding similar to Hilary Clinton's recent comments about Republicans.
I'm not entirely convinced that Israel's intelligence services didn't see this coming... & there's no fucking way the Hamas attack can be described as *unprovoked*.
US media in full propaganda mode & EVERY station is showing the 3 large buildings in Gaza being destroyed while talking about the rockets coming out of Gaza, trying to make it appear this was part of the Hamas attack & not the Israeli response.

Re: In todays news...
Explain why you think that. The Palestinians don’t hate Israelis because they’re Jewish, they hate them because they curtail their freedoms and steal their land. Anti semites won’t be especially active because of this. Far right parties are active all the time and yet Jewish people don’t get this protection all the time. The government don’t crack down on far right activity or demonstrations.

I think they're all Semites, aren't they.
It's hard to take sides with any of them tbh.

If you compare Israels 1948 borders with its current borders you'll see where the major problem lies ...dern wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 5:35 pmExplain why you think that. As an old friend of mine said 'If you see two naked, dead male bodies side by side you won't be able to tell me which is the 'Israeli' and which is the 'Palestinian'. They'd both circumcised and look just the same. (They'd probably never eaten pork either). They're all 'arabs' and the divide is all about religion/power. It's changed as the religious from other countries have gone 'home'.dern wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 5:35 pmExplain why you think that. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was - as someone once said. The only difference is you are only allowed to criticise one side and our Home Secretary knows that.

I've already said... Israeli settlers have been taking land from the Palestinians since the formation of the Israel state.irie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 7:45 pmWhat conclusion(s) do you draw from your above link?dern wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 7:33 pmIndeed… https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/5/1 ... -palestine

Re: In todays news...
As the saying goes 'You reap what you sow'
I lived in Israel in 1988-1989 in my back packing days,I lived on a couple of Kibbutz.Up to that point I'd never really met any Jews or Muslims so it was all a bit of an eye opener. The country itself is probably the most interesting place I've ever stayed in,but IMHO as a modern state it's fundamentaly flawed, how can you build a modern state on someone else's land? That kind of mentality worked 200/300 years ago (I can think of a few countries built on other peoples land) but it's from a distant time..
From what I remember,Israel was originally a smaller state but after the 6 days war Israel occupied the westbank,Sinai & the Golan heights.
I think a lot of the problems now are because the Israeli's encourage settlement in the occupied West bank & have a terrible attitude to the Palestinians, like some kind of apartheid.I can see why the Palestinians in Gaza are always kicking off,it's a ghetto & the oppressors are the Israeli's,there;s a generation of young people with poor prospects & a lot of anger aimed at Israel.
It's tragic & I find it depressing & sad, but they'll be going at each other until the end of time.
