I'm not sure what the whole Tampax thing at the moment is about, is this part of it?

Bloke who outsources production of his burgers to 1700 different kitchens in the US is astonished that the quality of them is inconsistent, with some being classed as 'disgusting', 'revolting' and 'inedible'...

I'm reminded of the classic Viv Stanshall line - 'this is inedible muck and there's not enough of it'...

Re: In todays news...
I've realised I've stopped watching, reading ' the news' any more. None of it is news. It's people, companies trying to be inclusive, getting it wrong slightly. Activists getting incensed because of the crass way they did it, or that they didn't in the first place. The woke police chuntering on about the world's gone mad.
I can't be arsed with it.

It only bothers you if you let it. Step away from the Daily Mail/Express/Sun/Star/Telegraph etc. etc., stop reading their carefully selected clickbait and get a fucking life...

The gutter press (do they still call them that?) don’t design Costa’s adverts.
Re: In todays news...
Innit, it doesn't matter who the news outlet is, they're only reporting on what is happening in this crazy world. Like if people are throwing their cous cous around in a rage over Trump or Boris, we'd hardly expect someone to be told to not read the Guardian in that case....

Re: In todays news...
I know you're sort of making a joke re tampax and wings, but this sort of thing is awesome for younger girls. This bit really resonates with me -Mussels wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 8:51 pm I'm not sure what the whole Tampax thing at the moment is about, is this part of it?https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-66201917BBC News - The female aviator helping women get their wings
I didn't know any women that played rugby, rode motorbikes, were jockeys - or pretty much any of the other things I wanted to do as a kid and family comments were always "oh that's not for you dear, that's boy stuff" or similar. As well as connecting people, the project's aim is to raise the profile of female pilots because, as the saying goes, you can't be what you can't see.
"The biggest problem is the lack of visual role models,"
So, despite the (possible) reason for posting that, I think it's freaking awesome.
I've got a mate that's a pilot for BA (and a biker!). When I met her she was a short haul pilot but is now doing long haul, which is awesome. She learnt her skills in the RAF! Helicopters as well
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!

Re: In todays news...
I only have 1 child, a daughter, and we actively encouraged her to do what SHE wanted to do, not what the herd was doing.
She hasnt got a pilots licence, nor does she ride a bike (yet) but she has done pistol shooting, sub aqua, running, open water swimming, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, cyclng and Krav Maga. She also manages to hold down a high powered job.
The main reason she doesnt ride a bike is the ludicrous and time consuming hoops she needs to jump through to get a UK licence.

Re: In todays news...
I have a question for those people who are terrified about teaching children that it's ok to accept transgender people.
It's been taught for as long as I can remember that it's ok to be gay, I'm sure some of you (that aren't dinosaurs) might have even come to the conclusion yourself, i.e. that it's ok to accept gay people as equal and everyday normal members of society...and I wonder...how many of you were turned from straight to gay because of this?
Remember Sophie Lancaster? People are now taught that it's ok to be goth, so how many of you were convinced to turn goth because of this?
Teaching kids that it's ok to accept transgender people into society will not turn them into transgender people.
I think some of you are so scared to teach people that it's ok to be anything other than heterosexual because you're internally terrified that you might not be one yourself and you'd prefer to keep that reality recessed into a very dark and faraway place in your minds.

It has to be a bit pushy, otherwise you wouldn't accept it, I seem to remember reading that civil rights for black people was a bit of a struggle too.

I do enjoy these little lectures that Potter gives from time to time, telling us stuff we already knew but trying to make himself feel superior just for pointing out the obvious.
