I did manage a breakfast run out to Heybridge Sunday morning. Bit bloody parky at 8am and by the time I got home about 11ish I was a bit cold for sure. The ride was pretty damn good, just managed to catch a nice flow to everything, where the corners swing back and forth at a decent pace and everything just seems right with the world. And that engine

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Not ridden much due to being busy but managed to meet the Mrs for coffee at her work in St Evenage old town last Wednesday. Always handy to be able to park at BikeStop and have a look at the gear. They got taken over by Infinity a few months back, but happily it pretty much seems the same as it was which is great as I've always liked the place.

I just love the surge out of corners with the front wheel just hovering on the power, it's a very effective roadbike for sure. Still don't get all the IL4 haters, the right IL4s are very right indeed
The cold/overcast weather did mean I had the tearoom largely to myself which was odd as it's normally packed even at 9. All in all a good morning.

Saturday's weather is looking good and I might be free for the morning. Sense a trip up to Manningtree for a blast via Heybridge/Fingeringhoe/Wheely/Harwich
Also just realised it's only just over a week till our Peaks ride

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
After many, many sets of Michelin Road 3s, 4s and 5s I've jumped ship to Metzler Roadtec 01SE. Had them fitted yesterday by the mobile fitter I use but not had a chance to try them yet, hopefully the weekend will be scrubbing tyres day. Could of got another set of Road 5 for less and I was tempted as they lasted 7500k miles, kept their profile well and gripped more than well enough for me. But change is as good as a rest and if these are as good as the reviews I should love em...hopefully
Generally people say they last well and feel more sporty than the Michelins, we'll see I guess.
The bike is currently gleaming following its wash the other week (been busy since) and still smells faintly of Matey Bubble courtesy of the new bike wash I tried, Motoverde. I do still need to take the belly pan off and clean under the engine as you can't get to it with the belly pan on but can't be bothered right now. Will do it when I service it shortly. It's been 12 months, but only about 2800 miles, since the last oil and filter change but prefer to do it annually.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Been mourning a lack of riding in the last couple of weeks and the fact I'd not planned another trip away on the bike. However, things could be looking up. Hoping to get to the Krazy Horse late nite tomorrow with my brother which is a decent ride on decent roads, then I've booked a half day on Friday and dad and I are gonna go out for a few hours Essex way, and finally looks like I'm free Sat and Sun for riding fun. So after a couple of lean weeks I'll hopefully be riding 4 days in a row for fun
Still not serviced the bike yet, but not too worried as it's been 12 months but only around 3k miles I think so no harm. Bit of a pain in the arse as Sportsbikeshop sell the oil I want at a decent price but not anything else I need. Wemoto have the filter, but not the oil or an OE air filter. So looks like I'll be ordering from 3 separate places.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Weather has been decidedly rainy/showery/windy of late but looking good currently for Thurs/Fri so I've book Fri off for a jolly on the Zuki
No idea where yet but thinking drop kids off at school and be home for 8 then head off say 9ish as the rush hour dies down, ride most of the day and head back to pick the kids up for 3.30ish. Naturally I tend to head east to Essex/Suffolk but maybe somewhere new will spring to mind. But at the end of the day I won't be at work and I'll be on the bike so

From Herts you could do a ride into the Chilterns, though TBH I can't remember many decent roads that way when we lived in Bishops Stortford in the mid 90s.

Yeah I've done a few rides that way, but tend to find the roads busier or tend to flow less well. I think mainly cos I don't know the good from bad.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Tue Sep 16, 2025 10:13 pm From Herts you could do a ride into the Chilterns, though TBH I can't remember many decent roads that way when we lived in Bishops Stortford in the mid 90s.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
That's an idea, although I'd never use the A10 cos it's dull as dishwater. I'd go off to the side of it and maybe up via Linton to Newmarket or Saffron Walden way and up through Haverhill/BSE. Any decent routes south Norfolk way? Only off piste road I've done that way is Thetford to Dereham which was nice.
Other idea was west of Cambridge area, been on some nice roads with my brother around Gamlingay and across to Old Warden.
Having said that, I checked the weather last night and looks like it's going to be a positively sunny 24C

Saffron Walden, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth, Thetford, Watton. I never used to past Watton as my mate lives there, but if I did I'd probably head up to Wells. Plenty of beach and fish and chips.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Ixworth to Thetford to Watton to Swaffham to Fakenham is good, Fakenham to Hunstanton to Kings Lynn isn't great, Kings Lynn to Cambridge is good if it isn't full of traffic. OTOH Fakenham to Cromer is pretty good, down the coast to Gt Yarmouth, quick peruse of the drug dealers and pole dancers, to Beccles to Bungay to Ixworth

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Bit of a delayed update, and not all GSXS based, as I was busy doing stuff and needed to get all the piccys sorted. But better late than never!
So, Friday in the end I decided to stick to the chips in Clacton plan but definitely not via the quick route. I was on the school run so by the time I'd dropped them, had breaky/coffee etc and kitted up it was about 9 which is what I'd planned for to let rush hour take its course. This also meant a moody gray morning turned nice and sunny by the time I left
First task was petrol, what a faff, went into the BP near Hertford and it took nearly a full 10 mins such was the levels of faffery. Why does it take people so long! My mood nearly soured when I hit not 1 but 2 closed roads almost immediately after, just that today's not the day feeling.
Luckily, I ignored that and the poor start became a nice set of flowing roads with the occasional car dispatched with ease by the mighty Suzuki midrange, I really really like that engine. It's so effective as a roadbike motor which builds into a glorious howl at the top end usually ending with me giving a little giggle like a kid.
First stop of the day was at Poulsons for a coffee where I'd hoped to see a BSA Bantam in the flesh

Sadly no Bantam, but they did have the new Buells in. Looked fairly shiny with lots of carbon on the sporty fella but not sure I'd be splashing 24k on them myself.

Far preferred their Bike Shed bike to Erik's creations

Coffee consumed I skirted round Abberton and thought I'd hit another closed road when I came across a big tail back. Filtered to the front and it was a broken down Porsche SUV thing being put on a low loader, luckily as I got there the rachet straps were just being tightened so in a couple of minutes I was away. Stopped at the reservoir for a piccy

10 seconds after I took that picture a BMW car came hooning passed left to right on the wrong side of the road at very high speed, I got to the "What a co..." when a police car hooned passed in hot pursuit. Essex init
Colchester was the usual crap to get through but then I took the B1027 rather than the A133 to Clacton. The sun by this point definitely had his hat on and a cheeky parking spot by the pier was nabbed alongside some other bikes.

A bag of chips was devoured but sadly they were freshly cooked and hot, I prefer when the chips have sat a while personally cos I'm odd. Plus as a reminder you are in Clacton the condiments were bolted down

Grabbed some sweets for the kids, flucking price!!, and then decided to head to Frank's Motorcycles the other side of Colchester, again back up the B1027, not such a great ride as Friday afternoon traffic was building. Been meaning to pop in to Frank's for ages but kept forgetting about it. This meant another run through Colchester but it wasn't too bad and the sun was shining and I was on my bike
Frank's had a pretty damn good selection of bikes and a nice cafe to boot.

I was particularly taken with this R7 but had spent the asking price on sweets.

This was rather spiffing

As was this which for no particular reason is a bike I just have a soft spot for, I'd rather a Formula S, which apparently they also have out the back but this was nice enough

I also like these, after seeing a puss green V11 Sport years ago parked at work and just liked it.

Nice early R1, with a shitty Panigale of some sort in the way of the R7

With time ticking on I went north west through Earls Colne and hooked round through Finchingfield, before picking up the A120/A10 back to home for a nice cold beer. Perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon

Saturday dawned with a moody forecast but we decided, my Dad, elder brother and I, to go along to Kop Hill climb. Given the weather I drove to my brother's and he then drove all of us in his new to him Mustang. Bugger me there isn't much room in the back. I'm far from tall but had to semi lay down to avoid continually hitting my head on either the roof or back glass! And this still happened more than I'd like as the aftermarket suspension is bloody hard. Still it sounds and looks cool and got us parked in the 'Cherished vehicles' section of the field.

Kop Hill was a good day out as usual with all sorts of interesting cars/bikes, including some Morini piloted by a dodgy fellow named Dicky, heard his shonker didn't even make it up the hill!
Shame we didn't get much time to chat but nice meeting you
My Dad spotted a nice Ariel Arrow on the way in, his first bike, and on the way out he asked if he could have a sit on it which the owners were nice enough to oblige. It even had the same Ace bars, although it was a different colour.

This certainly won't be the last ride of the year but probably the last cheeky day off ride until next year but can't complain too much as it's been a great summer this year.
Now. Do the bike service Supermofo you lazy bastid!
