He's effective at rabble rousing. And he has a big enough following of the disgruntled to back him up. Until he stumbled over an issue and martyred himself he was pottering about in the depths of low-end telly and selling his time on farage-o-grams.

Personally I think he should be imprisoned for his shocking views on immigration.

That would set a very dangerous precedent. Can you imagine the jury room: "So we're all agreed, we think he's guilty but we don't want to risk a charge ourselves so we'll tell the judge we haven't reached a decision."

Every trial would end with a hung jury.

You think the UK should put people in prison for their political views?

It could even lead to a revamp of the system, where learned people make decisions instead of twelve people made up of three carpet fitters, two housewives, a bricklayer, two warehousemen, etc...
That raises a very good point, my first wife was on a jury and to be blunt, she's not exactly Einstein. She told me afterwards she couldn't make head nor tail of most of the legal stuff and just went along with the rest of them.

I wouldn't consider myself qualified (i think I'm exempt though) for jury service, it's not like a truck driver from Ballymena should be in a position to make those type of decisions.

You can say what you want about him but he's very effective, if the Labour Party weren't so limp and useless then they'd take some lessons from him and do something about changing the dire situation the UK is in.
Farage is really horrible, but he’s right in this case.

On what basis is he really horrible?

If Starmer had balls like Farage (and got rid of that wretched shouty dim-witted sidekick) then he'd clean up.
Labour have worse schism than the Tories. Good luck to anyone trying to sort that out, it makes Blair's wins look even more miraculous.

Farage is just a nasty gobshite. Anything awful or unfair that happens to him is nothing to what he's offhandedly wished on others.

Yeah but the point is that its meant to be a cross section of your peers, and its the judge's role to impartially explain the intricacies of the law.

But in reality most of us don't want to do jury service because it costs us in time and money - and UK crime is not at all sexy and interesting like in the films.

Not much point asking them if they’re not allowed to answer!

Trial by jury is sound IMO. They get an appropriate level of guidance from appropriate professionals.

Without a jury most people from a council estate would be found guilty, no evidence necessary.

That sounds like a plan. Can I be in charge? There wouldn't be many people left in the House of Commons or "the other place". :)

Yeah I often used to discuss the intricacies of points of law with the builders over their morning coffee and Daily Star.
You used to be a good bloke.
But that statement makes you look like a pompous twat.
Shame.

He was fun as well. Now mainly pompous and patronising.

Shame as I considered us online pals..
