I'm still in awe over one I did at work one time. It hit the bottom of the pan, came right up to the top, curled over and went back down to the bottom of the pan, like one great big U shape, thing must have been about 18" long. I had no idea something that big could have even been in me, I wish I took a photo of it, it was just such a work of art.

The logistics firm the missus works for ship a lot of it, if a pallet gets damaged they get to keep whatever they like. There's about 5 boxes of it in our cupboard, along with Cheerios. There's a fucking mountain of Cheerios.

At a guess I'd say that making useful (and often recycleable) stuff out of hydrocarbons is a bit less of a danger and a tad less wasteful than burning them.
