I'm rather hoping for something like this...
I suspect I'll be disappointed, though...

Re: Chief Twit
I'll take that bet.
Musk 6'1" 185lbs
Zuck 5'8" 175lbs
Neither of them will know how to fight. Like, a real fight. Zuck probably has a fair bit of play fighting, Musk grew up in South Africa.
Close call but Musk will win despite both idiots really being egotistical losers if it ever happens.

Re: Chief Twit
You also need to know reach and age. Just because Musk grew up in SA does not mean he was down in the townships scrapping. I am surprised at Zuck's weight vs. his height; from pictures of the two I'd say that Musk is carrying the excess weight while Zuck seems fairly in shape.Screwdriver wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 9:07 pmI'll take that bet.

Stop it! I know right but now I am getting interested in seeing two grown men fighting just to see who ends up worse off.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 9:13 pm You also need to know reach and age. Heart says let them at it.
Head says they're acting like morons.
Not exactly a great example taking online virtual arguments and getting real. Especially from those two!

Yeah, it's completely infantile, but unfortunately is exactly what you'd expect from both of them. As you say, it's the worst possible example to be setting. Get Jeff Bezos in as ref?

Starmer vs Sunak - a fight to the death with feather dusters
Trump vs Biden - Trump would do the pussy grab and Biden would just collapse

Re: Chief Twit
I can't think of any situation (at my age) where violence could ever be premeditated. A reaction in defence of yourself or to protect others yes.
The only other physical option is to berate someone (if they had previously been "out of order") making it clear that you are not intimidated by threats of violence. But the downside to that, if you are "picking on" someone half your age is that from their perspective, you are such an easy target, they might fear to attack you in case they accidentally snap you in half.
This slowly dawned on me over the transition years where I maintained my fiery temper after my body had burned out. It occurred to me that my "opponent" was not necessarily scared of me, more scared of causing too much damage and having to explain that to a local magistrate.
None of that may be true with the influx of other cultures who do not adhere to the Marquess of Queensberry rules for gentlemanly conduct. They are just as likely to stamp on your head when you're down. A more recent development popular in gang culture is to stab you in the ass so that you have to wear a colostomy bag forever.
Difficult to know sometimes if it is this new age which has changed or old age which has changed me. I distinctly remember having fights and once our differences were settled, help them up, buy them a drink etc...

Re: Chief Twit
Since I stopped going out regularly on a Friday night, so 30 years then, I can't think of a single time I came close to a confrontation that had a genuine chance of some violence. Reactive obviously, I was never a starter, I have too much spare zen going on.Screwdriver wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 1:25 am I can't think of any situation (at my age) where violence could ever be premeditated. Can't think of a disagreement I'd want to settle publicly with a premeditated knockout. Over an opinion? Looking at my bird or spilling my pint, obviously yes

Re: Chief Twit
The last time I nearly had a fight with a yoot was about 20 years ago. We were in a park, my other half asked a group of lads to watch their language around our toddler and got a load of abuse in return from the ring leader. I lost my rag and he suddenly remembered he had a knee injury from playing football, otherwise he'd have 'ended me'. A few weeks later they stabbed a lad to death, can't remember if it was 18 or 21 stab wounds but they had an agreement that if one stabs, they all have to. We'd been saving for a deposit to buy a house locally but that convnced me it was time to move away from London.
I intervened in an attempted mugging not long before I left the UK, again in a public park. The two would-be muggers were actually quite polite and pleasant, explaining that they had come down from London because the bloke they were mugging had sold them drugs but never gave them their purchase, while the victim insisted he had no idea who they were I told them to fuck off, a park full of kids wasn't the place to sort out their diferences even if it was true, and they did indeed fuck off. They were clearly terrified of my physical presence and rock hard resolve, I'm absolutely sure of it...
I suppose Mr ice-cold stare might have played a minor part in it though...

Re: Chief Twit
I was sitting waiting for an appointment at my local bank when a youth starts kicking off with the teller. twenty something, shell suit, my guess was he'd just finished at the gym, maybe still hyper on steroids. "Give me my fucking money" etc. There were a fair few people in there in a large auditorium style open plan space. Then he starts "bring me the manager"..
Manager comes out and the yoof really starts going off, starts moving towards the office behind the teller station where the young girls looked petrified. Then he placed his hands on the manager as if to drag him off to the door.
That was enough for me. I walked over to the pair of them and quite calmly said, "That's enough nopw, you can't put your hands on him". So of course, he started towards me. I took a step forwards to him which he was absolutely not expecting! So he stops and starts jabbing his finger towards me. I honestly don't even flinch. Then he lands a finger. "That's assault" I tell him, "no it isn't" he asks almost as a question.
I put my hands out palms to the floor and gently suggest he calms down. He's only going to create more trouble for himself etc. Incredibly, instead of knocking my teeth out, he does calm down and walks off to the exit. I return to my seat.
Then some young dick in the queue makes a comment to our yoofs' back just as he was about to leave and he kicks off again. Young lad makes the big mistake in stepping back and is dominated. Lots of shouting but no actual contact requiring my attention (besides, he'd brought it on himself). Suddenly a woman collapses in an epileptic fit and it's mayhem just as the police arrive..
I don't think violence or even the threat of violence really helps matters in scenarios like this. As @Hoonercat implies, you just have to make it quite clear you are not intimidated but then engage in some sort of conversation. As soon as someone is engaging in conversation you can literally suggest alternatives; stop fighting, go somewhere else, think of the kittens etc. and the most incredibly effective tactic appears to be simply asking them to calm down.
It probably interrupts some psychological process which has put them into fight mode because I don't think anyone would expect little old me to be any sort of problem. But the interruption makes them stop and think which lets them see through the red mist.

Shell suit. That sounds very Liverpool. Maybe it's this one.
