I agree.
Before Covid I reckoned on 6 years of downturn / stagnation, before signs of of an uptick, covid may add a year or 3 to the wider industries.

But I'm an outlier, I didn't buy into the doom n gloom of the remainers, not the bus of the brexiteer's, I took a punt on the long term not the now or the status quo.
For the short term it's working out like it's xmas every day work wise, and from a personal point of view it can only get better, well it would if they'd stop trying to foist a managers position on me

In the long run the UK will benefit from being independent, having it's own currency (something the remainers never seem to mention) has not been a failure and it will be better for leaving the EU.

It's bad for me personally, but it will be better for the UK if a government can actually get their act together.
Or history may repeat itself, who knows? Economic success will probably depend on your second point ^. We recovered (unsurprisingly) faster, post-war, than the EU6 but then lost ground. It may not be the same this time around if, as you say, a UK government can actually get their act together and/or the european project fails. :hmmm:

'Why did Britain join the European project?
Why did Britain join? For various reasons. Because De Gaulle left, the Commonwealth could not compete, Heath defeated Wilson, the free trade area integration model sunk. But above all, Britain joined because joining the European project was perceived to be a way to stop its relative economic decline. In 1950, UK’s per capita GDP was almost a third larger than the EU6 average; in 1973, it was about 10% below; it has been comparatively stable ever since. On this basis, joining the EU worked – it helped to halt Britain’s relative economic decline vis-à-vis the EU6'.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one

Look chaps, Brexit has happened. It is done, and cannot be undone. So lets all stop whining about how the bus told lies and get on with making the best of what we have.

If you didn't vote for Brexit, tough shit. That little thing called democracy put you on the 'losing' side. In reality we are ALL on that side, so let's make it work.

Whining? My longer recent post was for irie, from him asking for examples of effects.

Lovely sentiment, CJ  :eh:

PS are you going, now, to forget an gof and get on with it? :)

As I probably didn't specifically say, the company I work for have suffered as a result but are working around it.

What more do you think people should work at to make it ... work?

What is perplexing to me is the people moaning that Brexit hasn't done anything for them, when they've spent their whole lives not doing very much for themselves anyway.
You never generalise, eh? :)

As I've said loads of times, this sentiment is bollox innit? You could just have easily said "look chaps, we're in the EU now, it's done and cannot be undone" but then Farage wouldn't have been riding his gravy train for the last 40 years.

It's not an argument for/against Brexit, it's just a bit thin IMO.

I think if anyone actually believed the Brexit propaganda and is now holding their hand out for the extra £350m then they're a bit of a div.
That's the way politicians work, isn't it, promises bribes and bungs.

Oh, with a side order of 'no-one will ever find out' for the last two.

Yes, and on a 40 year timescale anything can happen. We might join a very different European something, but it wont be the EU, and we won't be rejoining anything in the next 10 years.

Absolutely that^ just because a vote went against the way I think it should have doesn't mean I stop believing the way I do.
As Irie has been since 1765.

Do people even understand that other people don't just roll over either? Why the hell should we?

Or, thats democracy, get over it.

Some of had to endure assorted Labour* governments that bolloxed most things.
I didn't change my mind, but I didn't whine either.
It was democracy, and I had to suck it up

* For the avoidance of doubt, assorted Tory governments have bolloxed things too, but they are amateurs compared with Labour.

Ahh, but some of thats just exposing the bullshit isnt it?

If people don't call out bullshit it just gets worse.
Lie often enough and they think they have a right to lie more.

For the avoidance of doubt that went for Blair as well as Boris.

Or, maybe I don't mind so much being hoodwinked by a clever scam but its quite frankly embarassing having a bad liar running the country.

Which all sounds fair enough to me. And neither 'moaning' / 'whining' nor taking glee in the failure.

I'm fine with all that, Brexit fucked me over too, but what I don't get is the glee people take in it not going right and the desire for it to fail just to make a political point.
But that's closer to democracy, every 5 years.

What does Boris have to answer for? A party at No.10?
What does Blair have to answer for? An illegal war that killed millions and destabilised a whole area.
The party was one of his more minor misdemeanors.

Lolz. Tories have never stopped whining about 'Bliar' and his so called illegal war. The one that you, and all the tory leaders of the time, were all gung-ho and fine about until it was convenient not to be.
