That's how I get them to change.

My sister in law once informed me that at temporary traffic lights, if you flashed them with your high beam every couple of seconds at night, they would change.

I pointed out that maybe they were going to change anyway, notwithstanding the flashing of headlights. She wouldn't have it.

Yeah I'm always quite surprised how well turned out all the hire cars I use (different operators, different sites) are on pickup, given the state of UK roads and how absolutely filthy vehicles get quite quickly in Winter driving.

That said, newish cars that have been maintained well are a doddle to spiff up quite quickly - it' a no-brainer.

If you look at a set of temporary lights, they have a sensor on top. They should, but often aren't turned to sensor controlled at end of play.

Oh I know you get paid etc but I did say I wouldn't volunteer...ie my services*.

I pay someone to clean our cars and someone to work in the garden too, I don't want either of those as a job either.

* Particularly to anyone who thinks you can drive from a ski resort to an airport and magically arrive in a clean car...it makes as much sense as complaining that the car's dirty when you get back to the resort.

I understand why some people think that clean outside some how means claen inside. Look at second hand car sales, it is easier to sell a car with nice shiny clean car.

Would it be worthwhile to look on a detailing forum about some sort of ceramic coating that helps stop the road silt sticking and maybe a waterless system to clean the car at the airport nearby, Maybe a change of clothes/ dirty clothes so you don't end up looking sweaty.

NS&I security!! I mean, yes, good security is excellent. However, I was able to phone up and answer some security questions and then allowed to change my password (couldn't remember it Computer had it saved but wouldn't show me )

But then, two different security questions thqt I apparently answered worngly (not convinced I was wrong, but hey ho) and I couldn't update my phone number.

Apparently they send each call to a different person so no one person deals with your whole call for security. But it meant that I had access to change my password, no access to change my phone number and so - still no access to my account


Got to wait 2-3 weeks now for the letter that will have my temporary password in it (the last letter took three weeks to get here) so that I can then go on and change (hopefully) my telephone number and my security questions

Wifey repeatedly volunteering me to do things. This time she brought home a light that someone want's put up, she's now on her way back to the woman to explain why I won't do it. It's far from the first time she's done it and every time she ends up having to find an excuse why I won't do it.

My wife is doing my nut in too. She was out for dinner with her 2 best mates last night. She is out for brunch and shopping tomorrow. I dont begrudge her any of that and i'm probably bankrolling it too. But what I do object to is her saying are you going to go and get some paint and start painting then, knowing I have a hangover. She is semi retired but i only have the weekend to loaf about a bit, yet she seems to be turning into my boss and instructing me how to spend my time. I think what's worse is, i know she's right, i need to get my act together, but i hate being told what to do!

I know that story well. You soon become a bloke on call who works for nothing. I wouldn't mind so much sometimes,but it's usually for people who have money falling out their arsehole and can well afford to pay for work,if they weren't so tight.

I avoid this problem by cultivating an air of being fucking useless at handy man jobs.

They catch on though, my missus is like "You can put a fucking motorbike together with your eyes shut, but you can't put up a shelf?"

Motorbikes are like lego tho'

Everything has a place and the parts are designed to fit together (mostly).

DIY requires measuring and cutting and making things fit.

Totally different.
