On this day - May the 5th, in 1960, photographer Alberto Korda (Alberto Díaz Gutiérrez) took this picture of revolutionary leader Ernesto "Che" Guevara in Havana, Cuba.
His photo went on to become the definitive image of the Cuban 'hero', the image became a core icon of left-wing ideology, and is arguably one of the most influential images of the 20th century.
It has been reproduced, recreated, copied, parodied and painted millions of times around the world.
A true example of how a powerful image can become divorced from its origins.
It also, of course, spawned a million different T-shirts, badges, posters, etc mainly purchased by individuals that probably know little, if anything, about the Marxist revolutionary, or indeed the Cuban revolution and the humanitarian cost of the country's struggles.
Korda received no royalties from the image, but did receive substantial compensation from Smirnov (the vodka brand) who used the image without permission in an advertising campaign. He gave that money to charity.

Three Soldiers awarded the Victoria Cross, standing outside Buckingham Palace, who from left to right are.
Rifleman Bhanbhagta Gurung (3/2nd Gurkha Rifles): Awarded for an action on Anzong Hill, Burma, where he single-handedly cleared several Japanese foxholes.
Naik Gian Singh (4/15th Punjab Regiment): Awarded for heroism in Burma, where, despite being severely wounded, he cleared multiple Japanese enemy positions.
Havildar Umrao Singh (30th India Mountain Regiment, Indian Artillery): Awarded the VC for bravery in the Kaladan Valley, Burma.
Over the years, all three were offered huge sums of money for their medals, but all three refused, as it would stain the honour of those who had fallen.

Was just wondering about cleaning the rear wheel
Then noticed the rubber marks on tail piece from rear tyre at Portimao last autumn.
I'm going again in a month so wondering if it's worth cleaning

'Lunch on a beam'
.
You've probably seen the picture, but ever wondered about how it was taken?
.
.
@Taipan Fancy lugging your camera gear up 1000 feet of steel girders?

Early ornithological pictures are impressive, hauling plate cameras up cliffs.

I love Ansel Adams stuff.

Mind you landscape photography didn't work out very well for poor Robert Landsburg!
