You can book a "retreat" at Iona Community or similar. You fit in with what works for you, but the isolation, rugged beauty and quiet give you space to think and just be. Space to unpack emotions, memories and so on. PM me if you want more suggestions of places, I have a book of them! My father in laws funeral is on Friday, wife flies out today for this.Trinity765 wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 6:19 am I want to go and stay somewhere really quiet for a few days - suggestions welcome.
That's a great suggestion, thank you. I will consider it.the_priest wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 9:01 amYou can book a "retreat" at Iona Community or similar. I am looking to give us a couple of days away somewhere after that. She has to fly by herself as I have wedding rehearsal tonight, wedding tomorrow, Baptisms on Sunday and much more. Also dealing with church bereavements as well.
Takes time to process your loss. It does not fade, but some of the pain goes away with time.
My Aunt used to live on Iona and work with the community. I'd definitely say it's worth a visit. She loved it there and I think she misses it a lotTrinity765 wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 9:37 amThat's a great suggestion, thank you. There are a few ministers in my family which has kept the cost of the funeral down and it's great that those who are taking the service have been friends with my Mum since childhood. One of my cousins is married to an RAF Chaplin so I get privileges when I visit RAF bases and my other cousin played in a successful band called Iona.
You've been clubbing all night long again, haven't you.

Haven’t used my car for ages, well, since the wife remodelled the rear end!Count Steer wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 4:17 pmWelcome home TP.Taipan wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 4:15 pm Started my Merc up today and got an auxiliary battery malfunction message. The batteries must be sulking because you abandoned them.![]()
Is it taking a charge? Maybe look if there's a current drain/how much when it's charged again. Immobiliser shouldn't flatten it in 2 weeks surely.Taipan wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 4:50 pmHaven’t used my car for ages, well, since the wife remodelled the rear end!Count Steer wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 4:17 pmWelcome home TP.Taipan wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 4:15 pm Started my Merc up today and got an auxiliary battery malfunction message. That’s getting repaired Friday though.
Dunno why the MT battery went flat though? Immobiliser?
I have knee envy!Noggin wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 1:55 pm I had an amazing and completely knackering day yesterday!! LOL Really really good and really really tiring ! A bit over 5 hours and 300kms![]()

I set off from home at 6.30, before sunrise(eventually, after leaving the garage and realising, luckily only a minute down the road, that I hadn't put my rucksack on that had all the medical stuff in it!! LOL)
I rode from La Plagne to Echirolles, Grenoble to go back to the rehab hospital and see the knee surgeon. Ok, TBF, I wanted to see some of my friends/therapists/nurses more, but the surgeon was the reason!! LOL
Anyway, managed to get to Hôpital Sud a bit early so I got to chat with one of my patient friends - he was leaving to see a specialist yesterday morning, so we hadn't expected to catch up!! Chatted with a load of the nurses and health assistants then headed to Xray. First stumbling block, she was adamant that I didn't have an appointment for an xray, despite all my papers!! LOL But she was searching on my first name, not my last name!! LOL All sorted, xrays done, rdv with surgeon
He's really happy with how the leg has healed. In conversation, we were saying it's 6 months since the break and he says that the fracture is completely healed and he can take the metal out after February - it's actually only 5 months!! So I guess that's even better![]()

After that I went to see the OT and the physio and one of the other patient friends. Everyone was happy to get cake supplies!! LOL Me and Rémi got a coffee and sat outside chatting for an hour - a huge challenge as he speaks sooooo fast, but it was awesome to catch up. He's allowed to walk in physio now and is on crutches - was still in a wheelchair when I left. He's planning to come up to resort one day when he's 'out' and bring a couple of the others to have lunch!![]()

Stopped at some friends ten minutes from the hospital for lunch and then headed back to Bourg St Maurice - had already decided that doing the last 20kms up a mountain and a round a load of hairpins wouldn't be a good idea!! I was soooo right!! LOL
I am heading to see the physio in a bit and I suspect he won't be as happy or as impressed as I am after yesterday! LOL But I am still really chuffed to have made it so far and be functioning today![]()
The Monster was awesome. Very rattly but lovely. In a small, slow way![]()
This was a bit 'exciting' to see on the last bit of motorway (an hour from where I stayed last night)

But, I reckon it explains why my hands were extra vibey when I did stop! LOL All tightened up now![]()
For someone that 'isn't trying, is going slow, is being careful' I am a bit surprised at the tyres!!!![]()

Yes it’s charging okay. Not been run for 4 weeks and it doesn’t have an alarm so I wasn’t expecting it to be flat. Have a knee replaced in a couple of weeks so will be sure to put it on a optimists then. Couldn’t find my optimate4 today but found an optimate3 I forgot I had in the loft of plenty today!Count Steer wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 4:55 pmIs it taking a charge? Don't suppose you can leave it on an Optimate if it's parked up for any length of time?
Your weans will make a fortune on the pruck you have (but didn't know about) in your loft.Taipan wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 5:03 pm

I found a couple of reg/recs up there which I certainly don’t remember buying or indeed what they’re for! I’ve got to clear the loft at some point to insulate it better. God knows what I’ll find up there when that day comes or how much I can turn it into on eBay!
Errrrrr, no! MrBB had been complaining of having a 'cold' last week. On Thursday he went out to do some manly shopping and on arriving home he decided to take a covid test which was positive. I took one, too, which was negative. We both took another test today to see if anything has changed. MrBB still has covid and now so have I. He said, "I don't suppose it would have made any difference if I'd isolated properly". Maybe not, but some attempt to avoid infecting me would have shown a bit of consideration.
