Had an email on Friday to say I'd won something. It hasn't landed in the bank a/c yet. As someone on here said, if they notify the big prizes first, I'll assume it's £25.

Not life changing but better than £0. :D

You need the prize checker app. It's very exciting, even better when you win. 🥳👍

I was going to load the PB app until I found you can't buy/sell PBs using it, then it didn't seem worth battling through the security. It's more complicated than banking and share dealing/management!

TBH I like the anticipation of waiting to see if I get an email and then waiting to see how many ££s...it's not real money until it's in the bank account. :D If winnings were reinvested then I probably/possibly would. Maybe.

But, you get little winning GIFs when you win. This month a lady toasted me with a champagne glass! It made my £75 seem so much more!

£50. 2023 started well too. Seemed to get something every month but faded a bit in the second half.

Potter wrote: Sat Feb 03, 2024 9:54 am Officially NS&I says you will get the equivalent of 4,65% return, plus the chance of winning a million every month (or a smaller prize, only two people a month win a million, but IIRC over a thousand people every month win amounts from £10k-100k).

Does anyone know of anywhere better to keep your savings?
but isn't that 4.65% based on having a certain amount in there and 'average' luck?

Our NS&I bond matures in a couple of days, we took it out at 4% and they've offered to renew it at 5.5%, which is a bit more than they're offering for new customers.

Yeah the 4.65% is average winnings over a long period, so it's only really valid for long long term savings.

Supposedly the actual probabilities are very hard to work out. Money Saving Expert has a good article on it.

How long is that 5.5% for BTW? I've currently got a few bonds at 5.38% for 6 months.

I've got one at 6.75% for 9 years in my SIPP! But I fully appreciate that ones a bit risky, so I didn't put that much in.

Premium bonds are unlike any other savings though in that the rate is linked to how much you have in there*.

If you have just one you're very very VERY unlikely to get that 4.75%. In fact you can't, cause the smallest prize is bigger than that?

If you're maxed out then yeah you'll get the 4.75% over a long enough period.

*yeah I know some methods will pay you more to save more, work with me here ;)

The only thing wrong with that statement is the "you'll get" :D.

You're statistically likely to get doesn't sell it quite so well.

You can very conceivably get FA (witness, this thread) and I don't think anyone here has got that million just yet?

Nothing this month, but I pulled a lump out of PB's to put somewhere else, so I only had 2-3 K in there
