Been there, done that, and it is never good, even when it is expected. My sincere condolences.

I popped out to collect something I got off of that there eBay, so on the way back, I popped into Lohn Jewis and had a browse at the nice things they have. I had a look at the Sage coffee machines and there was someone there from Sage doing a demo, so we had coffee and a chat. The machine demonstrated is a smudge over a thousand pounds, so maybe not just yet. I have enough coffee machines anyway, so just wanted a little browse on my way through.

Not today, but last night.

T'was the company/team summer social and we went punting in Oxford. Loads of my colleagues are Oxbridge types so they've all been punting lots of times before*, they all seemed incredulous that I'd never punted before. I reminded them that they needed to check their privilege.

In the end I managed to go where I was planning to go and I didn't fall in the river, not even once. It was quite fun

*Is there actually any punting anywhere outside of Cambridge or Oxford?

Stratford-upon-Avon and Canterbury - apparently. (Those 2 and Oxford and Cambridge are supposed to be the most beautiful locations but I bet you can on The Norfolk Broads too).

Was punting on the Cherwell when a punt went by with a chap lounging in it and a young woman in shorts and T, poling them along very effectively (seemed like a fair division of labour  ). There's a sudden shriek and a splash and, as she surfaced, there's a broad Australian 'I've lost ma bladdy earring!' Quite how, in the circumstances, she'd noticed I really don't know. :D

Yeah that's where we were yesterday.

My colleague went in, twice. Both times he managed to hold his carrier bag of dry clothes above the water, which was fairly impressive.

I've had a major sort out of the 'stuff' under the bed this afternoon!

The bed is about 4ft up in the air to allow storage and freezer/washing machine to be underneath!! So, it does often attract a ridiculous amount of 'I might need that one day' crap!! LOL

I've been pretty ruthless - for me! Three 'bagsforlife' of clothes to go 'somewhere'. A lot of fabric that i've kept for years as I might 'make something with that' - I won't, seriously, why did I buy some of this stuff!! LOL

Best thing is, there's now room for the box I use as a table to go under the bed (it's got winter clothes in it!) so that I can clear space for doing some physio in here.

A mates coming round tomorrow to take the bags of 'get rid of this shit' to the garage until I can find a home for it all!!

Maybe tomorrow I'll get ruthless again with the shelves of kitchen 'stuff' - if I can make more room for 'stuff', then I can get rid of a wheelie shelf and make more room in the little corridor!! LOL

All this on top of a longer walk before breakfast and then some swimming and pool physio!! I'm knackered and it's not even 15:30 yet!!

Dog sitting while my wife and daughter are at Kendal Callling festival.
On Thursday I thought I was going to have an ace weekend, just walking the dogs and not being pestered.
Then on Thurs afternoon our dog managed to snag his knob/maybe got bitten by daughters dog and everytime be wakes up (he's fifteen months old and like most young boys wakes up cock first) he bleeds quite a lot.
Been to the vets twice now, first time they couldn't find the injury (he must have been running about with a stiffy as the injury was hidden under his perpus/foreskin) and the second time they said it might be better for it to heal without stitches.
Everytime he wakes up, I mop a load of blood up and I'm not sure how much he's got spare.
I keep looking at his gums to see how pink they are but could really do with one of those colour charts to give it a number,

Not quite the enjoyable weekend I'd imagined it would be.

Nope, although I've hit upon a plan to keep him subdued. I've lit the woodburning stove, and as usual he's now laying in front of it asleep.
I'm bloody sweltering here and I'm another six foot away but he's got his head on the cool hearth and seems OK. I'd open the kitchen door but then he can hear whats going on outside the back and gets interested if next doors dog barks.
Just hope I don't fall asleep and wake up to find him looking up like a California sun dried raisin.

The last time he bled was maybe an hour ago and it seemed to be less than previous times so its either clotting better now he's less active or he's like by brothers old Triumph and when it stopped leaking oil it meant it was out of oil.

I'm hoping for the former.

Carbolic soap and a wire brush. Rinse with hydrocholic acid just to be sure.

I am trying to do a bit of walking each morning as well as the general walking around and sorting in the apartment (tiny apartment, but lots of 'steps' to shuffle all the stuff around!! ). I don't have a high target of steps and sadly, cos I don't make long steps, if I do 1000 steps it doesn't equal 1km :( BUT, Today, I walked further up the road than I have before, mainly cos it was sunny and I wanted to look at Mont Blanc from a particular point. So, in total I only walked just over 2.5km but - look at the views!!

I'll keep building each day as long as it doesn't actually hurt (there is something weird going on when I walk, after about 1km or so, and I think I'm limping slightly to stop it hurting but I'll check with the physio tomorrow!), I seem to do approx 2.5-3km when just bimbling around, so an actual walk in the morning helps. I'll build up to a decent walk in the evening too soon :D

More boring photos for you all :D :D

A view of Mont Blanc that I just love

Plagne Centre with Plagne Village just in shot on the left.

On the right (second from the right, with the little building on the top!), the Grande Rochette mountain. This is the one I want to be able to walk to the top of before the snow comes. It's always been my goal to walk to the top in winter, watch the sun rise and ski back down for coffee, breakfast and work. The route I want to use takes my very fit friend a bit under 2 hours - although I think he runs straight up with no zigzags!!

I reckon with some zigzags (and on skis, it feels easier to 'slide' up rather than walk/run!) I could get it down to 2.5-3 hours - eventually. So, if I start doing it in mid december I've got time to get quicker and better before sunrise is stupidly early!!  And, it will take less than 10 mins to get back down to have my caffeine fix before work :D :D

Image

Must put some effort into sorting a decent bag to carry the camera (and water!) so I can use the proper camera and not my phone

Finally cleared the garden of water pipes. Cleared about 250m last week and did last bit today.
Got rid of the irrigation system and buried the useful pipe with big homemade tent pegs.

Looks much better now.
