After the first service I reckon.

Which is taking some getting too, I need another 400 miles, but the weather has been shocking the last couple of weekends.

One of the problems buying a new bike late in the year. I bought my Duke 690 R in December and it was April (and in France) before I had my first ride on it.

Instead of randomly riding around trying to put some miles on it, I can now got to specific destinations using a preplanned route and Google maps!

It also covers up my shonky paint repair...

It's nice quality for £7.

The zip has a velcro pad on it that attaches to another pad on the bag to stop it rattling around and scratching the paint.

Ignore the phone size spec on the link, it'll take much bigger phones.

I got all excited today as the odo was showing 503 miles... checked the book and the first service is actually 600 miles, so another 97 to go, bugger.

It did take it up to 60mph today when I went on the A616 by mistake, almost 4krpm!

I checked the book again.

Running in is 0-600miles 3.5krpm max.

Then several pages later on the service schedule, first service 500 miles.

I would have expected the running in to match the service interval?

I guess I need to get the service booked.

Probably one started from the arbitrary number 500 miles and the other from 1000km and converted.

100 miles? Either way, you can knock that out "on the way-ish" to the dealership.

First service today (511 miles) £175.

I suppose it's quite steep for an oil and filter change, but it maintains the warranty.

I might start looking at bolt on crap now. I might even drill the rivets out of the baffle.

This week I've commuted three days on my 2016 R1200GS and the ride to the service and back on the Gold Star was quite a contrast.

The first two days of riding the Beemer required remembering it had a quick shifter, then riding to the service required remembering the BSA didn't

The slower speed and skinny tires means weaving between potholes is fun on the BSA, where as the ESA on the Beemer means you don't really take much notice of them.

...and although previously pooh poohing gear indicators, I use the Beemers to make sure I'm in 1st at junctions and to stop me from trying to put it into 7th on a run, I kind of miss it on the Gold Star (it's only got 5 gears and I'm constantly trying to get 6th).

I was looking at BSAs today and also the Honda GB350, I think it might be too slow...maybe, but you can get them for 600 quid down and 60 quid a month with a 6 yr warranty. That's less than some phone contracts! Makes it attractive as a runaround/winter bike.

My Gold Star is 45bhp, a little bit less than the RE 650 twin (but more torques).

The RE 350 and the Honda 350 are less than 30bhp, iirc. The Gold Star will do the ton. Apparently. I'm still running mine in and the legal limit is 70mph :p

I very seriously considered the Norton. The dealer is less than two miles from my door and the finance deals are very tempting. I could buy the BSA with my pocket change tho'.

Yeah there was some crazy deals on Nortons. I joked I'd use it as a winter hack at that price.

My 2014 RE Bullet 500 EFI is rated at 27bhp... but mine has a loud pipe, PCV and K&N, so I reckon nearer 30bhp. I've seen 72mph on the clock

I had a look around recently cause I wanted to get one ('cause I got a payrise ). If I could find one for the crazy prices I'd just take a punt. Can't find any of those mad deals now.
