I think Portimao is one of those circuits you've got to give yourself time to learn, first few sessions I actually felt quite dangerous even though not particularly fast, by the afternoon that feeling has gone and you're constantly thinking more power, go faster, every day just gets better..

Turns 4 & 6 are annoying as can't change gear at right time coz of road shift. So short shift to 3rd or hang onto 2nd.

I need to go back to sort out turn 5!!! And try not to hurl the bike down the track

But definitely what Flux said. I should have done 4 days there - only managed 2.5 as crashed on the second day, couldn't use my hand well enough to ride on the third but back out (slightly slower ) on the fourth.

It is somewhere I would 100% go back to but definitely for 3+ days as I had 'got' some sections (albeit at my slower than Yorick speed!!!) but definitely not all!!

Sounds good, although 170 sounds a bit steady on your monster before throwing out the anchors-I'd have.min 190 mph on the clocks before I even considered it - even on a 600

Anyway, this thread has made me realise that I'd defo liketo get back to portimao in the not too distant

@Tricky throwing down the towel methinks....mind you, he was quick back in the day, or least, that's what he told me....

The bike is flying down the straight, passing loads of race/track bikes.
Wanted to get a reference so sat behind a GSRX1000R to compare. Sat right behind long last corner and waited till he got on the gas. Tucked in and passed him before the finish line.

And now braking about 100 yards later than yesterday.

Watched a Jack Miller on board video last night and it made me cry

Missed the last session as was knackered.
Safely in a hotel 2 hours east.
Nice 2.5 hours ride to ferry tmrw.

Fantastic week away and already planning next one in spring.

But gonna throw some decent money at the suspension. It performed well as standard, but could feel it lacking sometimes.
Might as well do it right from now on

Yeah that's him. Getting quite famous

He's fast as fuck enduro and mad fast on road.
His missus flew to Jerez for a few days and they sneaked into circuit Saturday to see a trackday. His first taster and now wants to come with me next time

On the way there the dashboard told me it does 55 MPG at steady 70.
Then 50 MPG at steady 80.

360 miles on track averaged 24 MPG

In 3rd session on 3rd day I felt like I was 22 again. Gliding and hitting every apex and turn point and knee down 75% of corners.

But obviously a bit slower.

I'd love to to able to ride this bugger with the skills I had when I was winning races in my yoof.

But just mailed the Maspalomas circuit on Gran Canaria to get a day there sorted. And my pal says he's gonna come as well

Knee down, well, who cares eh , but what some of us would also be ( only mildly ) interested in is what, ahem, your laptimes were when on it?

( not that it's important to anyone ever on any trackdays, , definitely not me, oh no , and I guess not you either, no interest at all )

I dread to think how much it all cost
Now looking at future events and will be able to drop the total a fair but so I can do more events.
Main cost was 8 nights hotels. Averaging 100€ a night. But looking at future dates, these hotels are only 50€ if booked ahead.

Also Pen flew to Sevilla then hire car 6 days.
Next time we'll fly her to Faro. That will save her 250 miles driving. I'll still have 500 miles road riding. Dearer flights, but will still be cheaper.

Obviously Jerez will be easier as only 10 miles from Cadiz.

Looking at getting a trailer perhaps for the mighty Duster. Or a van but they really are stupid prices over here

Just caught this thread - it's a stunning circuit and I absolutely loved riding it despite bike being an utter arse at the time. (Wayward tps and quick action throttle = speed&death) Rode there & back again and definitely plotting a return excusion.

Saw and enjoyed your thread on that James, that was a trip and a half one way and another- you is a madman

Cheers - you've got to do these things to learn how not to do them! I'm eyeing up mugello for next year and definitely want to ride there but this time it'll be Mr, bike, card. Not carrying a fukketonne of camping gear & spare tyres this time!

Well. Just booked Maspalomas on Gran Canaria November 19th

And just been to Dacia dealers to arrange a towbar fitting (500€) so I can tow the bike on my pal's trailer.
Last night we tried it and fits OK. Just need to add strengthening plates to attach eye bolts for ratchet straps.

Riding the bike there is a pain and don't now need the missus to bring the car everytime to carry the heavy stuff
