I wouldn't want a classic really. Wouldn't be ULEZ compatible to start with. I have been looking at 1200 Sportsters in various guises, but don't think its for me last this point. Not much I haven't been looking at, but have decided its not worth bothering until spring breaks as it wont be used until then and my leg maybe be more flexible in warmer temps, so maybe a Panigale?

TBH I'm not actually against it per se, as we do need to clean our act up, but the ULEZ is a bit farcical as its based on manufacturing date and not actual emissions. e.g. 2 x 2007 SH300s, one registered in 2007 is subject to ULEZ, but the same bike registered in 2008 isn't.

I plugged my 42 y.o. LC's registration details into the ULEZ checker and it failed. I plugged my '08 registered Falco into the checker and it passed.

If you look at TFL's website it says tax exempt vehicles are ULEZ exempt

OK, in that case I stand corrected. I guess the checker isn't smart enough to query tax-exempt status.

Just checked on the TFL site and 40+ y.o. vehicles that have HV status are exempt.

If you can prove it meets the emissions limits, you can apply for exemption. There is a testing centre for bikes, you may also be able to get the manufacturer to confirm the emissions, and some bikes have the necessary numbers on the log book.

I had a car that was sold to me as non ULEZ compliant, but it was and I got a (free) letter from Mercedes to prove it. TFL accepted this and added it to the database. My Father-in-Laws 2007 sh300 can qualify but Honda want £175 to supply a COC (certificate of conformity)!

Sheffield gets a CAZ (Clean Air Zone) at the end of February. Thankfully all my polluting 2 and 4 wheel vehicles are exempt, but I do wonder for how long.

BMW provide the CoC letter free, by email. I got the Rockster registered on TFL as exempt, but I've yet to enter the ULEZ on it!
