I only got back from holiday last weekend and I've been busy at work all week so could only drop the bike off yesterday.

Well it went into the LBS last week for a full boingey service at the "grown-ups" (Zeebs will probably need new stanchions after silly Dartmoor dismount earlier this year put a nice granite scar in one of them), a full bearingectomy of the pivots and they can bleed the brakes whilst they have it as well. What with the ZH2 this is a BAD month.

That's sounding like a very expensive bill.

Not sure why you don't do pivots/bearings yourself in truth, they're a pretty simple thing

Time, patience, lack of a decent workspace and the shop do it all the time, I'd be doing it once a year and having to remember how to do it each time and if the shop get it wrong I get a new one.

Back from service , full pivot bearing swap though most were only slightly worn but I’d rather do it now than leave it till they’re fucked and beginning to seize or creak. Fork and shocks service all ok, new lower shock mounting hardware as slightly worn. Brake bleed and whole check over, chain and disks ok. £600. Officially SKINT now.

So I hadn't used the EEB for ages, went to use it Wednesday night, fully charged battery fitted, pressed the on button and.........nothing, then brief hint of a flicker from the head unit. Tried another battery to no avail. Oh well off to the shop then, but a quick look on the internets revealed that turning the bike upside down and spinning the rear wheel backwards so it spun the motor over would kick the bike into life. Bugger me if it didn't work!! Turns out this puts a bit of power into the head unit battery and it comes to life. It seems like charging the battery when it's in the bike also feeds power to the head unit battery but as I charge the battery off the bike normally this doesn't happen. Lesson learnt.

You'd think the internal battery would hold a bit more GO than that really. If you let it drop to there does it maintain the overall miles in the head unit etc ? Historical data ?

Yep, all the historical stuff is there like clock and odometer, last time I rode it was in early October and that was only a few miles and before that it was probably another month without use. I can't remember the last time I charged it with the battery on the bike.

But my luck is a disease, went to go out about 45 minutes ago and it's thrown an AW101 (can't see speed sensor) error code, dash is showing erratic speeds of 1-25mph as I pootle up and down the close. Looking at the Etube app it says speed sensor issue and the speed box app is saying all ok but my mates speed box died like this last year so tomorrow I'll drop the motor out and disconnect the "chip" and see if that sorts out the issue. I've just washed it in preparation for tomorrow's spannering in the conservatory as the rain comes down.

I did think about going out on the Curtis but this week I haven't been kind to bicycles so I'll just take the dogs for another walk instead.

Yep, I hate bouncing off the limiter , it feels bloody horrible and if I’m commuting to work over the downs that’s all it does and it drives me nuts so I’ve set the limit to 22mph

Definitely the Speedbox chip, I removed it today and all good. Emailed where I got it from as allegedly lifetime warranty.

That’s good news at least then. Minor inconvenience but I suspect this time of year after the rain that speeds would be lower generally anyway

Full power restored !

Back wheel in for a service, phone call at 1700 from LBS ……well we’ve changed the bearings (most were grumbly but not too bad) BUT the sprags had it, the cage had fallen to bits and a couple of the sprags had actually split in half which only came to light as they took it to bits. LBS now talking to Onyx regarding warranty.

Well, distinctly unimpressed with Onyx, sprags are only covered by a 12 month warranty and apparently I contaminated them with grease when I relubed the bearings (something I did by mistake on another Onyx hub and was VERY careful not to do this time), So between time and contamination they won’t warranty it. Shop seeing what they can do but it’ll cost me, annoyingly I have an I9 wheel that fits but will have to spend £200 to get an XD driver for it.

Wheel fixed, loads of bearings and a new sprag. Picking it up tomorrow or Wednesday.

I'm a little confused why you seem to go obscure/boutique on hubs. The Onyx from what you've written seem crap and i9 are a disaster waiting to happen. Id just go simple and easy like a Hope Pro5, quickly sorted by any LBS and every part available in 24 hours.
