Why parking sensors when a ten quid camera hooked into that unit would be better?

Van already has sensors installed

There's also the fact that i rang my mate who does this and he said "I got you this one..." i didn't ask why... he knows his stuff, he only fits decent stuff, not rubbish and i trust him.

Weirdly too, we were talking bikes as that's where i know him from as he used to remove unwanted alarms on motorbikes for me...

"oh i've got a new bike... KTM690 SMCR..." lol...

He's also now well into MTBs.... well eMTBs but close enough.

I'd still get a camera on that head unit as Merc parking sensors are notoriously crap.

I want to get a head unit fitted in my camper, is that wired or wireless for carplay?

The parking sensors in my SL are weird.

The fronts display on a little light bar on the dash and go from one little orange light to five and a RED in a nano second.

The rears are on a little light bar... behind you. So you have to look over your should when reversing if you want to use them rather than just listening to the beeps.

I find cameras useful because sensors usually start screaming when there are a few inches left, when parking a van in a car size space I found cameras very useful. Even now in my 5m long car they are very handy.
Sensors also go off when things are next to the car, I've ignored them once before when I was sure there was nothing behind and I'm not doing that again

Yup. The worse ones I've ever had in any car. My car has parking aid but as it uses the sensors I don't trust it!

I haven't used my car for ages and it was covered in about 5 lots of that sandy rain. I took it down the jet wash place to power wash that crap off and the sand crap must have affected the sensors as they seem to work better now, although still shit compared to the wifes mini and my camper! My camper has a reversing camera fitted but the screen is about 3 inches and I cant see it without my glasses, hence the need for a new head unit with a bigger screen. As an aside my car looks bloody lovely after a wash! 8-)

I've had my car just over a year and never tried Parking Aid.

It sounds like such a faff in the manual, I might as well just park it myself.

Funny when i was reding about weeksys sensors it got me thinking about the ones i have as they were pre installed but one missing. Kits can be had for just over a tenner but i only need one part but the screen thing on this is nicer to look at than mine to i bought it for parts :D

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284874852238 ... UJDh5qXOYA

Prefer the camera but its at an angle on the roof edge and when on screen it looks like i am about to hit i have another 18 inch or so to play with so may as well have both. I put reverse camera screen where the rear view mirror should be as that is where the head/eyes naturally goes when reversing.

Merc rear sensor display is normally aligned with your rear view mirror so you don't have to look over your shoulder, are SL's different then?

I install my own wired. Ignition live to screen and earth. Reverse light to camera live and earth and plug the two together. Hide wires and jobs a good un. Cheap Chinese ones on my last bus i installed about 4 years ago. New owner is still using it so cheap Chinese one is on present bus. If a part fails you can cheaply replace that or just the part. I got water in my camera lens as it was up on the roof so replaced that with a better covered one for about £6.

See that shiny raised bit in the middle of what looks like the speaker grills, that's the reverse indicator lights.

I think most owners spec the reversing camera, but mine is council spec.

Yeah, that's the widget- can't you see that in your rearview mirror then?
Previous earlier Merc's I'd had (not an SL though), they positioned it so you could see in the mirror - frommemorybit was similar to your display but mounted in the headlining above rear window. My last one, they came up on the dash screen.

Right, I get you now.

I can't see it in the mirror, probably because of the way I have my mirror set being a bit tall.

To parallel park just indicate and drive past a gap slowly and it'll put a message on the screen and hit ok on your steering wheel then let it do this thing.

Worth doing a reversing sensor test with a second person, if no camera. They can vary massively. 🤫
