Throw your leg over a triumph trophy. Better bike than a rt, a fjr and that Kwaka 1400 thing. If you are anywhere near bronteland you can have mine for a day.

If you take up the offer, there won’t be much fuel in the tank and when you bring it back the tank needs to be full😜

A bit left field and given that the Tracer 900, Tiger 800 and V strom have been mentioned. How about the KTM 790 adventure. Lightweight (relatively), pokey engine, can do hard luggage - I think and should fit the budget.

Doesn't Adam or someone have one and loves it?

Think I've decided it's a multi 1200s.
Question is what year ?? may up to nearer 10k if absolutely necessary. Gonna sell crf250 coz it doesn't get used.

I think the dvt started in 2015 ish, needs full luggage. Also, is the skyhook suspension the one to go for, fancy the electronic adjustment.

I know @Bigyin and @Tricky have multis, what year are yours. Anything to look out for or steer clear of.

I've decided on the multi because of it's 2 up touring abilities, it's sporty styling at apposed to all the other adv sorts and I've never had a Ducati. 👍

IME spouses tend to have forthright opinions on pillion seat comfort. Don't forget to let her sit on it before you buy :)

Mine and Trickys are pre DVT models, mine is a 2014 despite the 2016 plate and Trickys is a couple of years earlier i think looking at the forks and screen.

Things to look for are decent service record and if its close to 15000 miles on the earlier bikes and close to 18000 miles on a DVT bike then make sure the big belt/desmo service has been done as thats close to a grand. Pretty much all Multi's will have had a fuel tank sensor replaced at some point as its a known fault and most dealers will do it for parts FOC and pay labour. Mine is on its third one already at 17000 miles however my first Multi did almost 40000 miles on its original sensor.

Skyhook is great and feels a bit weird till you get used to it along a rolling road with bumps as it always tries to keep the bike flat.

This one is an early DVT model but has full luggage and the Termi exhaust system which is a few hundred quid . According to the description he has already had the belt service done due to age rather than mileage as its not even done 6000 miles yet. I only flagged it up as its at your original budget but you might need a dealer to trade in your Yam and this is a private sale

There are a few about with full luggage and not a lot of miles and under 10K

Cheers Rob, that looks a decent one. Why is the belt service so expensive. ?

Yin's posts sum most of it up and he has a lot more experience and knowledge of them than me, but my five bob's worth FWIW is yep, the electronically adjustable suspension is definitely worth having if you are likely to ride both one and two up, and even if only one up I'd still like it - loved it on my MT10 for the simplicity of being able to adjust with a few clicks of buttons (and on the move) when the need or mood takes you, and is the same on the Multi.

Mine's a 2012 1200S- I bought it two years ago and it had been very lightly used with just under 7k miles on it- I've only added just under 3k to that, but 95% or more of those miles have been with a pillion .
I was really looking for a DVT one purely as they have cruise control (the pre DVT don't), but this one ticked every other box and was in such nice nick and reasonably local so it was a no-brainer really.
That one Yin linked to sounds decent from the add and looks reasonably priced to me- I paid £7300 for mine

I suspect it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea as the pre-DVT motors are definitely lumpier ( and I reckon lumpier feeling than your old 1290) so you have to love big twins to like it IMO, but I do, maybe get a go on one or two if you can- you would of course always be very welcome to try mine, but there's a fair bit of distance between us I guess.
Anyway- I guess you've probably read it, but in case not, a bit more detail on my views from when I first bought it in the thread here
http://revtothelimit.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=7449#p7449 - good luck whatever you decide- will be interested to hear your views if you do get any tests on any

Lots of labour time as a lot of the top of the bike has to be removed to get access to the rear cylinder and engine internals and then all put back on again as far as I know
