Yeah, it looks like the lowered bikes have different shocks both ends.

It's ruled that bike out, which is a shame because it was truly mint and had all the extra's I wanted and I'd got them down to 10k :(

They have a black 1200GS with the right miles and spec, but a bit over budget. However as an approved used BMW they offer a two year warranty, two years breakdown, etc...

It was a bit dog in the flesh. In fact any of the bikes in there over a couple of years old look like dogs. If the build quality on modern BMW's really that bad?
Yup, its why i didnt buy one despite being offered a very good deal on a pre registered one. The dealer also told me there was no issues with build quality or any warranty issues despite me knowing of at least of a couple of claims for engine paint corrosion tht were going through that same dealer at the time

The Ducati dealership said if anything goes wrong with it they would make sure they tried to look after me......they have for any little thing i needed and nothing major has gone wrong over 2 Multistradas and getting on for nearly 60000 miles between them ;)

I've asked for some better pics of this one (Chester is 75 miles away!)

I do like the idea of a BMW approved bike with 2 years warranty and break down cover :)

There's no mention of Gear Assist Pro tho'!

That’s about what I paid for my 67 plate 1200 last July with just under 12k on the clock from a BMW dealer. There are quite a few around at that price range.

Yours must be just before the TFT dash although It might have been an extra on that year,

The next big service on yours will be at 12k when the valves are done.

I didn’t have it long but loved it so much that I’ve got a new 1250

They sent me some pics of that one and the VIN. It doesn't have keyless and they won't budge on price.

Pidcocks have one for just under £10k with less miles, but it's only on ebay, not their own website which is odd. I've emailed asking if it's an approved used with the two year warranty.

I use the 'Revisions' function on ebay to try and get an idea of how long stuff has been listed for, most of the bikes listed at dealers have been there since last year. I thought GS were popular?

I've noted this with loads of bikes I idly look at. There are GSXS's from when I first started looking last autumn. There are TLS1000s from late 2021 that are still at the same dealers and still at the same price.

I just got through to Pidcocks (after only 5 attempts over the last two hours).

The bike on ebay sold a year ago, but it won't let them delete the advert, WTF!

This looks okay.

What I’ve noticed is there is very little price difference between a non BMW retailer and approved BMW.

I’d go BMW dealer if possible.

Suzuki's USP in the big adventure bike market is they make the cheapest.... and they look it.

Couchy is trying to sell me his brothers Super Ten. I've been reading the groups tests. The Super Ten is better than the GS off road, but thats about it.

I have no desire to take an ADV bike off road, I only want an ADV for the ergos.

His S10 does look nice tho and it's sensibly priced.

I’ve rode the superten and preferred it to stepdads 1250gs. Then again I preferred my 1150 to the 1250.

Most of the reviews of big adv bikes are bollox and biased to the BMW’s. I’d try as many as you can. My bro’s bike is nice but has a few marks and scratches from use hence the good price. It would be my first choice at that price point along with a versys 1000. The euro bikes have too many potential issues.

ISTR you aren't a fan of the smaller Triumph triple, and haven't read the whole thread so don't know if they've been completely dismissed, but what about the 1050 Tiger Sport?
A good compromise between ADV and sportbike IMO, and what I nearly bought instead of a Multi ( the styling and bit of extra shove/sportiness made it the Multi for me though :) )

This looks like a nice one

I did look at them, but they're a bit old skool and probably not as great for a pillion as some of the others on the list.

I'm really enamoured with the GS at the moment, but only the ones with keyless ride, ESA and Gear Assist Pro (quick shifter). I've never had a bike with any proper technology on it, ABS is about as advanced as I've got.

I went to look at a White GS at Ritebike on Sunday, but it turned out to be a low chassis, they've just got another in, similar spec, but triple black and full luggage, for less money!

I'll give them a call tomogga for the chassis number to run through the vin decoder for all the options.

Good call with the ESA. It makes switching from 1-up to 2-up to 2-up+luggage a doddle. If it's still the same I think there's 3 settings - something like 'comfort', 'road/normal', 'sport'. Comfort made me feel seasick the one time I tried it. Sport wasn't extreme and was fine for most riding. Dunno about GAP, never had it - be interesting how that is on a GS gearbox...they didn't used to be particularly easy to do clutchless changes on. :D

The only bike with comparable tech is the Multistrada and it's 'sky hook' suspension, they also have the cruise and keyless stuff.

There's only two things jarring about the Multi at the moment. They have a chain and they aint as roomy for the rider/passenger.

RE a multi, I'd try one if you can if you haven't already before dismissing the pillion - my OH loves it and in all seriousness, how much more room do you need, orindeed get on anything else short of a Goldwing/Pan or full-dress Harley- they are pretty roomy- we're off to France and Belgium on it this weekend so will give a further view after that.

And as for chain, , yep, get it, but I honestly don't give that a second thought anymore these days on current bikes- I've never adjusted one on a tour, and I've done lots with 2-3k milages- admittedly not on a Multi yet though :D

I'm probably 60% BM, 30% MS, 10% Something else (Stelvio/Crosstourer/S10) at the moment.

The wife is a brand snob and loves Ducati's. When I was racing one she kitted herself our with all the casual wear, but she admits the BMW feels more comfortable to sit on.

I've not tested either, I did ride my mates 1250GS around his mums field in 1st gear without any kit on and it was fine :)
