Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
Only just seen this. Top bombing TP. I hope you get one with it.
I very nearly got one recently. I think I'd have struggled getting it past my car without moving the car and that was the main thing which stopped me.
I think they look even better with the genuine Honda topbox (the square looking one).
I'll be really interested to hear how you get on with it.

Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
I used the bike for my daily commute today. Yes, as predicted, the bars are (stupidly?) wide in traffic when filtering. Not sure I CBA to cut them down etc, but may try a set of Renthal street bars on there? But I'll certainly give it a week or so before any decisions are made.
The seating position felt odd again. I think its because when you use the feet forward position the tapering footboard means you don't have your whole foot on it? Again, by the time I got to work, it bothered me less, so hopefully, it's just a period of adjustment needed?
It still feels strange to ride. The seat and bar height doesn't make it feel like the bike you walked up to and got on!?!? Really strange and hard to explain, but it doesn't ride like it looks, if that makes any sense!! Speaking of getting on it, sadly, that is probably going to cut down the ownership time for me! You cant just forward kick your leg over the centre consul like you would on, say a Tmax. Its too high for that. So I'm getting on and off it like a normal bike, which is what I wanted to avoid. Frankly, the MT-07 was a lot easier to get on and off of.
On a more positive note, the main thing I noticed is just how different this is to the NC700X engine and gearbox! I looked it up and the 700 redlines at 6500 and this is at 8200, so a much more useable range there and it's a lot better bike for it. It makes D (drive) mode actually useful and I didn't need to use S mode at all, whereas on the 700 as soon as I hit traffic S mode was selected. Sure I missed the punch of the MT-07 a few times this morning, but I didn't miss the gear changes!
At this stage, these are more observations than criticisms, but the getting on and off may well be the undoing of it. I'm not going to be able to park it at the front of my house and safely get on and off of it due to the way the garden drops away from the bike. I dropped the NC700X twice cos of my spazzy knee and I don't want this coming down on my leg. So, I'll have to park it in the back garden, which from a theft POV is probably a good thing to keep it away from prying eyes, but it does mean getting off of it, unlocking and relocking the gates etc, which will probably get old quickly.
Bottom line. I really like this bike. It's much better than the NC I had before and even completely different in many ways. I enjoyed my ride in and will be taking the long way home tonight, via a private road which is more like a cart track! At this stage, I certainly don't want to get rid of it and will (almost) happily make what adjustments are needed to make this bike work for me. Of course, the best thing is to get my knee sorted but the quote on that is £14k if I go privately! So do I like this bike £14k enough...

Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
Osteoarthritis has eaten all the meniscus (cartilage) away and now I have bone on bone articulation wearing the joint away. In short, its fucked!
I've got a steroid injection at the end of April, then I'll get referred for "surgical intervention". Because I've had one total knee replacement, they only want to do a partial replacement on the second knee, but I suspect it's past that option now? No idea on time frames but it's a long wait due to covid delays and back ups etc. I suspect it'll be down to me to get done, as frankly, it's getting too debilitating to live with.

That sounds pony
I was lucky with my ACL from diagnosis to op was only a couple of months I think done by a private hospital via the NHS. My FIL had his knee replacement in the same place. But I suspect Covid has fecked things up

Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
Forgot to mention, in traffic I could hear the termi exhaust, but only slightly. That's as good as it gets though as apparently they now weld the DB killers into to comply with some reg or another and its a real ballache getting them out?

Why would anyone pay that sort of money for an exhaust that whispers? I'm no fan of silly-loud stuff but you'd expect it to sound 'nice'. V odd.

Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
Its a new reg or something. When I had theMT there were loads of threads about how to get rid of the spot welds on Akra DB killers so they could be removed.Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 2:49 pmWhy would anyone pay that sort of money for an exhaust that whispers? But it isn't standard is it? I thought someone had paid good money for something that's no better than standard. If it was factory fitted, fair enough.Taipan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 2:53 pmIts a new reg or something. Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
Here's what the exhaust people say, but it's normally just tack welded in as they know people want to remove the db killer as easily as possible.
"Hello,
Thanks for your mail.
The current European law, about the homologated exhaust EURO4, decides that the dbkiller must welded with the silencer.
The only way to remove the dbkiller is damage the muffler, broken the welding.
I remember you that this operation invalidate homologation and warranty.

Here you can what needs to be ground away and how the manufacturer has thoughtfully put a nut there so you can put it back in securely should you need to.

When I bought the bike, it was sold to me with part service history. Looking through the paperwork tonight I found that's not true. There is a service receipt in there but the book wasn't stamped. so it actually has full service history.

Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
Just been looking at my Termignomi exhaust. You can see there is a retaining screw for tHe db killer but no access hole in the carbon cap! So you have to drill out the cap retaining rivets and remove the cap to get at it, or drill an access hole in the side of the cap? Not sure what happens to carbon if you leave an unbraced in anyway drill hole in it though?

Probably cheaper to get some wireless speakers hooked up playing engine noises for you and leave the exhaust alone

No, it's pushed into the exhaust sleeve and the strap below it has the retaining rivets in it.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 2:52 pm You sure that carbon bit doesn't just pull off?

They must have put it together without a hole in the carbon fibre. <Haynesmanual>Disassembly is the reverse of the assembly procedure<Hm>

Re: NBT: And now for something completely different!
No. They bolt the db killer in, then fit the end cap so you cant access the bolt. On some models they have the hole and grommet? Guess I'll be drilling a hole in the cap then! Well, if I can be bothered...Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 3:12 pm They must have put it together without a hole in the carbon fibre. <Haynesmanual>Disassembly is the reverse of the assembly procedure<Hm>
