I've also taken a video and sent to Balfes and some pictures.

I thought chain guides were rendered obsolete with N/W chainrings, no?

I didn't have one on the G170 and never once dropped the chain, but there's no real weight in it and no reason not to have it really.

Shimano mech has a clutch, just make sure that it's 'On. If 'Off' you can drop a chain which can make "quite a mess" of the back of the bike.



With clutch on and NW you should never* drop a chain. IIRC NW was invented by SRAM and the clutch by Shimano.

Just spent a while on the phone with dealer regarding both the tyre issues and the wheel/chainstay discussion.

Firstly they're more than happy the tyres should have been on there and have offered me 2 new tyres... Sadly they only have the Bontrager XR4 in stock which i'm not keen on after people mentioning they're really tight and these rims seem particularly tough at the best of times to get tyres on.
So he's sent me a voucher for £100 either to buy new rubber or whatever i like.... which is more than fair.

Regarding the clearances, he's said it's easier to take it in so the workshop guys can take a peek.. which is a bit of a pain as they're in Gatwick... but not impossible. I totally get it that it's easier to do in person than in pics.

I get Bontrager XR4 Team Issue tyres on rims no problem, last did it two weeks ago - 2.6" front, 2.4" rear. I've got them onto Alex MD35 rims, Bontrager Line Comp 30 rims, Hunt Trail Wide rims. All 29".

Anyway, £100 is a fair deal

The Trek has a few nice features. Well apart from carbon frame, carbon chainstays, carbon wheels and carbon bars lol.

Storage compartment that comes with its own tool bag. Currently has multi tool, tyre levers, pads, quick link for chain. I'll also put pump in there. Clever.

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out! That is actually normal for the Fuel EX - the end caps are smaller than the dropout themselves. I have 2 Fuel EXs on hand and they both have the same design! When tightening your axle, it will all smush together in harmony. -Mitch

I've called Trek UK four times about various things and they have been incredibly helpful, glad you've had the same experience.
