Re: My next bike
Many years ago, Ford made the Granada Scorpio. I remember a road test at the time that said "the great thing about driving the Scorpio is that you don't have to look at it at the same time". It's the same with many bikes. Get on, ride it, smile. But... I have to admit, my bike needs to push my buttons when I open the garage door.
And (but?) I've got an SDGT...

Re: My next bike
I'm sure it'd look a lot better covered up with fairings! What a hideous engine. I don't even know if it's the right way up? What an ugly mess. Put it in the fugly bike thread!KungFooBob wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 9:47 pm Grotesque?
It's a naked v4 Panigale.
Cos everyone needs a 200+ BHP naked bike.

Re: My next bike
See I hate the process of buying and selling bikes now. I know it's easy, but it's just a faff to me. So I tend to see bikes as something I buy and will keep for a few years now.
I wasn't always like this. From my teens to 30s I was a new bike every 18 months type guy. I reckon I might well go back there at some point but with 2 young kids and tending to buy rather than PCP it just seems an added complication.
I probably need to change my mindset!

WEll, start with the easy part... Which of the engine configurations do you prefer.Supermofo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:06 amSee I hate the process of buying and selling bikes now. Twin
IL4
Triple
Single
Then move to 'power', which we know for you is 80-120bhp as a preference.
Once you've picked the above, there's very little in the way of choice for each criteria.

Re: My next bike
See I think I've already done that and got the list I did. Other than the GSXS 1000 due to it's 145bhp.weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:09 amWEll, start with the easy part... I'm not fussy between IL4 or Triple. I know you don't like IL4s but I seem to like both judging from your XSR and my previous bikes. Twins I'm not sure of due to not gelling with the Firestorm, but I loved the TL 1000 engine. Having said that I've not picked any twins except the 1090. Superduke 990s and Tuono's are too old for me and I don't want a Ducati.
I do like singles, but that's what I'm coming from and the best single you can buy as well so no options there.
So IL4 or Triple between 90-120bhp. I think that's covered by my list and it's a long-ish list.
In the past I've wanted a particular bike which has made buying easy. This time I like 10 odd bikes with no massive preference either way. So thinking I'm probably best riding them. Although to be fair I reckon the difference between a Z9, GSXS and MT will be minimal.

Well there's the 701 Husqvarna which i'm pretty sure can be bought with full warranty.Supermofo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:27 am

Re: My next bike
They look lush IMO but having sat on one fuck riding one for a long weekend morning. I'm like the old bastard in the yellow pages ad about the bicycle seat on his son's birthday present racer.
Plus and just getting this out there now whilst there's discussion about how minging my bike choices are. There is a 99.9% chance any bike I'm getting is having a topbox.

Re: My next bike
What you want is a 120bhp Japanese, big v-twin retro looking thing with all the modern toys... no wait, that's what I want.

Re: My next bike
Looks like I'll need to up the budget by at least a grand to get the cheapest council spec Nine T. I do like them though. I'm also thinking you are then in the BMW servicing gravy train/issues

Re: My next bike
That's not bad looking that. But if I went that route I'd probably go Tracer.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:58 am The Pure is proper council spec, get the full fat one.
Or... the R1200RS.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-detai ... 500&page=1
Although if I went fared Beemer I know I'd want a R1200S but they are silly money considering the age/mileages.
I do quiet like the R1200R
But a bit scared of BMW ownership.

Re: My next bike
I know a bloke who had the R, he loved it. They've got quick shifters and all sorts of gizmos. They've much more 'premium' than the Yamaha's.
He's getting on a bit and traded it in for a lighter bike... a 790

Re: My next bike
Nah does nothing for me and seen a few tests were it comes last against MT's, Z9s,790s etc. Sounds like the gizmo's move them up the scale but then you can end up spending a lot on one of them.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 12:49 pm What about....

Re: My next bike
Yeah I'm gonna notice the weight with all bikes the claimed wet weight of the 690 is 160kg. Everything even my mates Street Triple feel lardy in comparison.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 12:48 pm He's getting on a bit and traded it in for a lighter bike... a 790

Re: My next bike
What about a Ducati Scambler?
Probably not that much of a step up over the 690 power wise.
There's also stuff like the SM's and Hyperstradas?

Re: My next bike
I like the desert sled version they look cool. Not checked how much they are but the baby ones are probably similar power/weight as the 690 I'd imagine.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:00 pm What about a Ducati Scambler?

I love some of the SM versions but think they are ££'s. Will check.
Also Ducati is gonna need some kind of formal servicing and valve checks won't it? Part of the appeal of the Jap bikes is once past warranty I can do oil/filters myself and valves will be not due till long after I've sold the bike normally.
