That’s a bit shit, but if anyone can mcguyver a better system it’s you.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"

There's something delightfully ironic having you moan about the weight of a single wheel - on an EMTB that's only marginally lighter than a trials bike.millemille wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 8:09 pm
Hope rear wheel now fitted. Good quality but by fuck is it heavy compared to the American Classic wheel that was on there.

An ebike is 19-25kg depending what you have, aren’t trials bikes 70 or so kg ?lostboy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 7:46 pmThere's something delightfully ironic having you moan about the weight of a single wheel - on an EMTB that's only marginally lighter than a trials bike.millemille wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 8:09 pm

Waiting on parts, still, from Germany. Headset parts to convert to a normal stem setup and cable guides for conventional routing.

Re: "The Lively Monster Truck"
3 months wait but here we are...
...now running a conventional headset/stem/cable routing and looks much the better for it, plus future maintenance will be sooooo much easier.
While picking the bike up from the LBS I ordered a Hope 29" front wheel of the same type as the recently bought rear as no one has a good word to say about the OEM Novatec hubs and wheels....and the mismatched branding was making my teeth itch.
Going for slow, fat and rusty ride on Saturday. Can't fucking wait!
Been way too busy at work to sort out the bash guard so I'll run without for a few weeks.
And been so close to pulling the trigger on a set of second hand hope brakes loads of times over the past weeks...

Great news... hope you enjoy...
I fancy Hope, but really struggling to justify buying and putting on my own bike.

Re: "The Lively Monster Truck"
Based on past experience I'm not sure that Hope's will be any more powerful than the SRAM's but their resistance to fade and adjustability on the fly is a big plus. I'd like to try the vented disks as part of the setup.
The ability to be able get spares, down to an individual component part level, is a strong tick in the pro column.
The cost and availability of pads - particularly in foreign climes - is a negative.
The fact that once you've got a set of Hope's you'd transfer them from bike to bike kind of justifies the expense.
But of course, the biggest plus in the bling!

So, bash guard. Originally fitted and looked like this...
After 2 months use it looked like this...
..and had caused at least two of the motor mounting bolts to bend.
Bit of thought and some machining and fabrication work from the usual suspects and we've now got this heavy duty, stainless steel, elastomer mounted bash guard...

Re: "The Lively Monster Truck"
Saturday morning, bottom of Jacob's Ladder with @porter_jamie and his better half and a local riding buddy ....
...about 200 feet later, bang and hiss of explosive tyre puncture and simultaneous crunch and graunch and loss of drive...
Rock in rear wheel broke spoke which punctured rim tape and at the same time ripped the rear mech off. 45 minute walk back to van so didn't bother trying to MacGyver it and the others carried on....
Wheel going in to LBS for a new spoke. Had a spare brand new mech and chain already. Giving serious thought to running tyre inserts.
In other horrendous accident related news, following an unfortunate hacking of my ebay account I now own a full set of Hope Tech 4 V4 brakes and floating disks.....

Re: "The Lively Monster Truck"
The tyre explosion was nothing to do with me.
Ouch that was a boring expensive ride. Let us know how you get on with the Hope brakes as I've heard mixed reports.

Re: "The Lively Monster Truck"
If anyone ever calls @Couchy a simpleton or fool or idiot in my hearing I shall slap them, for he is a genius.
Popped round to see the sofa related fella on Tuesday to return a borrowed battery and to gratefully receive a set of nukeproof tyre inserts he had knocking around unused.
His set were 29er's and I'm running mullet. I mentioned in passing that I'd have to order a 27.5 set as well and couch, as a throw away comment, asks why don't I cut the insert and take out the unneeded section and glue it back together?
Don't be stupid, I say, and head home where I order a 27.5 set on a next day delivery.
Which promptly fail to turn up.
So I'm putting the bike back together earlier and I think "what would couch do?" and the answer is right there.
Swift cut, sneaky trim, spot of hot glue and Robert is your father's brother.
Genius, I tells you, @Couchy is a bear of considerable intelligence....

Re: "The Lively Monster Truck"
Looks like I may have been premature in trumpeting my Hope brake purchase, looks increasingly likely the seller is a scammer...
...paid on the 8th, seller marked them as despatched on the 19th (only after I chased to ask what was going on) and they still aren't here. Seller is not responding to my messages asking for proof of posting/tracking number. Raised it with Ebau so we'll see what happens...

Re: "The Lively Monster Truck"
Update on the hope brake situation.
Having raised their non delivery with ebay they said I would be entitled to a refund if they hadn't appeared by tomorrow, the 29th.
Checked ebay earlier and there is now a tracking number listed, which is a genuine royal mail next day special delivery before one o'clock number....
...posted today, 9 days after the seller claimed to have sent them.
But what do you reckon will turn up?
My money is on a box containing a brick....
