I grew up in the middle of Co Antrim (Cloughmills -Google it), college in Edinburgh, then first job in N Cornwall because, well, we knew NI and Scotland fairly well by then. Then Strabane for 2 years when son no 1 was born (1st grandchild for both families). A bad job I shouldn’t have taken, in a difficult place at a troubled time. Then back to Cornwall because we’d been really happy there before, and we didn’t want our (by then) 2 boys to grow up in that NI atmosphere. That was 45 years ago, and we still love it here. The busyness of the summer is a price we’re happy to pay for living in a great place.
Still go back to NI often - NW in May, and 6+ weeks in the summer as we’re now retired, and it still feels like ‘home’ in a way, as we ‘understand’ it. Don’t ask me to explain!
