Saga Lout wrote: Tue Oct 21, 2025 9:42 pm I learnt the metric system at school. I'll happily use whichever I fond most convenient.
Distance: miles,
Length, width etc: Whatever seems sensible. If it measures exactly a foot I'm not going to say it's 30.5(ish) cm,if it's a meter I'm not going to say it's 3ft 9.5(ish)in
Weight: kg (the scales can measure metric and Imperial but metric's the default so that's what I use.)
Liquid measure: Pints, fluid ounces, litres, ml drop out of the system they'll be replaced by new old people. :)
The Triumph clutch basket in my bike spins on a crowded race of 20 rollers, when in gear with the clutch free.

Each roller is of 1/4 inch diameter and 6 mm length. Just to please everyone I suppose!

A bit like car tyres: diameter in inches, width in millimetres.

I worked on Land Rovers for a while & there were two that were real bastards... If you took a line from the back left corner to the front right corner everything on one side of the line was metric & the other side was imperial.
The bolts holding the left doors on was imperial, the right doors & the rear door were held on with metric. Front bumper was imperial rear was metric. Left fender was imperial, right was metric, even the fucking front & rear diff hardware was like that.

I guess they were built during the change over to metric

A lot of these trends are actually declining now. Veganism being the main one in decline but also non binary stuff is losing momentum too. Real issues just become bandwagons and life's attention seekers pile on. Hopefully things can get back to normal, or as normal as life ever is, and genuine people with identity issues will get whatever help they need?

I do admit that when I was a kid, if I could have got away with being a fluffy and getting out of lessons, I probably would have! :? :D

Well, I've just come home from B and Ms. Got some kitchen paint, winter job I've been allocated.

I join the queue at the till and I'm behind some really odd sorts. A benefit family I have absolutely no doubt, they all stunk aswel, massively overweight and their communication with each other was a worry. Anyway, card doesn't work, she doesn't know her pin, everyone in the queue is on a patient test. I fcuk off to another till.

On the drive home I thinking, I wonder how much that lot are costing the tax payer. Just one family, there's 100Ks more of these. A young family who won't have put much into the system, but take a good wedge out.

The future isn't good, irreversible damage continues. The cost of being alive will keep growing. Future gens will definitely be living in a different world than most of us and it won't be a better world for sure.

Happy days. 🌞👍

If it wasn't for all the illegal immigrants coming over here and taking our jobs this family could all be living productive lives and paying in to the system.

Oh...

Over here you can't take out more than you put in. So no perpetual scroungers.

There are always people within a society that need support in all its guises, and as a tax payer i'm happy to support that, but what we don't need is people that make careers out of it, and we certainly don't need to import more to further add to the burden!

"Do we coddle older people too much? ;)

They can’t be bothered to learn the metric system in place since 1971 that uses an easy base ten system of numbers.

Too lazy to learn to use computers and smart phones to access services that have been in place for at least 20 years.

Moan because they can’t go to a building and spend 45 minutes having a form filled out for them because they can’t read basic instructions?

Poor loves can’t remember a few 4 digit pin numbers but seem to remember the phone number they had for every house they owned or how much a pint of beer cost in 1976!

Get confused scanning the shopping when all they have to do is pass a barcode over a glass screen?

Fail to grasp that things have changed and society is now shaped around the next generation of children and adults."
As probably the oldest old cunt on here can I remind you all that not all of us oldies are whiney nor do we reject modern tech.. We use it when useful, but mostvof us have seen so many fashions come and go we are slightly wary of jumping on the latest bandwagon. We have also seen many variants of socitel norms, and recognise most of them as fads which will pass.

Regarding pronouns. I don't think folk on here are as upset by it as their posts may allude ?!

Personally I don't really mind if you want to be He but you wanna wear a dress and lipgloss. The only thing that gets me, and I think this is what annoys others. It's when these people get upset or angry or aggressive act when people get their preferred pronoun wrong. That's the issue, bandwagon w@nkers looking for things to be angry about.

I agree. If a man want to pretend he's a woman I'll play along and call him Madam or Miss but I'm not going to believe his nonsense.
