I drove along the A6 from Buxton to Matlock today, a road I loved on a bike in the 90s, it's still a great road, but I no longer think it's a suitable place to ride at 160 mph.

I was riding from Matlock to Ambergate about a week ago thinking much the same. It's scary looking back on how we used to ride.

I came across the Cat and Fiddle as well, it now has average speed cameras on it for 50mph, I don't think I could get anywhere near that now.Ian wrote: Tue Apr 22, 2025 7:15 pm I was riding from Matlock to Ambergate about a week ago thinking much the same. And there are now 8 chip shops in Matlock Bath, all the little old lady tea shops have gone, I preferred it how it was 30 years ago.

I had to climb over an eight foot wall (for reasons I won't bore you with) a few weeks back. The initial 'spring' up was, let's say, more of an autumn.

HMP Bronzefield are still rather embarrassed at 'losing one of their flock'.Sunny wrote: Tue Apr 22, 2025 11:04 pm I had to climb over an eight foot wall (for reasons I won't bore you with) a few weeks back. The initial 'spring' up was, let's say, more of an autumn.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

Had that back in the day with Yorick, Legion748, Rocket Ron and a few others on the A5, doing 150mph+ on the wrong side of a traffic island... i wouldn't even do 100 there now !!!Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Tue Apr 22, 2025 6:39 pm I drove along the A6 from Buxton to Matlock today, a road I loved on a bike in the 90s, it's still a great road, but I no longer think it's a suitable place to ride at 160 mph.

Re: THe Good Old DAys
Had no choice, there was a car in the left lane and Yorick was gapping us, so into the other lane and wham on the throttle.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Wed Apr 23, 2025 8:33 am I wouldn't do any speed on the wrong side of a traffic island.
I never said it was clever
It was funny though as Legion748 had sat behind the car waiting for the gap/break in the island...
