Found this Mowdy yesterday, it was on very compacted ground, trying to dig in.
I picked it up and put it somewhere better.
The stuff on it's back looks dodgy but was just debris from its digging attempts.

Oh and it was a properly solid little fecker.

No point having the ignition on when there's no fuel in it :p

Council house diesel is 1.03 Euros here, so even this careful Yorkshireman doesn't mind filling it up :D

On 19th January 1982, a quietly whimsical scene unfolded near the banks of the Thames: Roy Plomley, the distinguished British radio broadcaster and creator of *Desert Island Discs*, stood with dignified charm beside an antique gramophone on a parched stretch of riverbed at the bottom of his garden.
📸: Captured by photographer John Downing, the image is rich in both symbolism and character—Plomley, impeccably dressed, appears like a marooned gentleman, conjuring the core fantasy of his long-running BBC programme.

Is he impeccably dressed? He's wearing muddy boots and a donkey jacket.

Not got toggles or a hood I think.

(Got me googling though. A duffle coat or duffle bag is made from duffle fabric (Duffel fabric from the place of that name in the Antwerp area. Live and learn eh? :D ...I thought they were Scottish because of the horn toggles).

TBF i never gave it a thought where they came from. I had one as a kid with toggles but no hood. I was sure you got them with buttons. Them big round things that looked like leather snake skin.

The Wiki is quite interesting. The Navy had a version that became known as a Convoy coat. I think a lot ended up in army surplus stores. (I had an RAF greatcoat from the army surplus).

Also had a dark green Gloverall duffle when I was a student. Great until it got really soaked then it weighed a ton - but it took a lot of rain to do that :)

It was a saying when you seen a woman with erect nipples. You could hang a wet duffle coat from them

We lived in tenements with six in a block. If it was raining, out on the stairs was where the duffle coat was left for the night. Odd occasion it would come in at night and hung in front of the coal fire, but once we got a full fitted carpet it was out in the stars again for the night  Oh how i loved them lino boarders.

The Olmecs, one of the earliest cultures in Mesoamerica, left behind some jaw-dropping colossal stone heads over 3,000 years ago. But what's really mind-blowing is how their legacy lives on—both in the art and the faces of their modern descendants. Their influence paved the way for the Maya and Aztec cultures, and today you can still see their genetic and cultural ties among Indigenous peoples in Mexico. It's a powerful reminder that history isn’t just old books and artifacts; it's alive in the people who carry it forward.
