Is it a bit weird to take pictures at a funeral? I remember at my Uncle's funeral one of his friends was snapping away like a goodun and even as a kid I thought "Why would you want to do that?"

Seems par for the course today. Big funeral at local church yesterday, masses of cars and people, and a video being made of the entire event.

:wtf: Who would want to look back at a funeral? It's not like it's going to be one of your top 10 days out is it?

I think I'll get somebody to record my funeral. It'll be the first time anybody's said anything nice about me. :P

What's the point of cutting our emissions when China commissioned 38GW of new coal powered electricity generation plants in 2020, three times as much as the rest of the world put together, and in 2021 China has initiated 74 GW of further capacity and now accounts for 85pc of all coal plants under development in the world?

Bit of a defeatist attitude isnt it?
China is also putting in more renewable energy than just about any other country, more electric buses and vehicles as well but we needn't do anything about our emmissions because somone over there is being naughty.

Oh and lets face it, China is the only place where anythings made nowadays so its actually emissions from them making our stuff that we likely don't really need anyway.

So two wrongs can make a right?? Because China are using more of everything, that's OK?

I see it more as a double whammy. Global corporate interests and disingenuous utilities can charge more for "clean energy" and "carbon neutral" technology/manufacture by farming out production to a filthy Chinese enterprise.

We have been sold out by greedy capitalists whose only interest is self-interest.

China could burn a million tons of coal and make and export a million electric cars to countries which bring down their emissions per capita. India could build power stations that reduce dependency on burning stuff locally. Irie's point was 'why bother if China isn't?' My point is - it's complicated - but the world average needs to come under control, some will go up (possibly to serve our needs/wants) therefore others need to come down.

......I realise that I'm totally pissing in the wind, it doesn't mean I don't try anymore but it's hard to be all guns blazing about topical issues when you really do realise that you're so insignificant that you won't make any difference at all.
One things for sure, if enough of us do stop trying, we really are all :angry-cussingblack:

On the other hand, if enough of us keep trying, even a little, and don't let the 'why bothers' stop us, who knows? It won't make things worse at the very least. Politicians and industries can ignore an individual but if enough people keep putting their hands up or their money where their mouths are they might just take note. So, I'll use less fuel, buy less stuff, put more insulation in the loft and try and spend at least some money where it might make a difference. Might as well go down fighting (or flapping hands a bit :D ) at least eh?

My point was that we should have a sense of proportion and avoid 'virtue signaling'.
