Crap food.
There's a decent Canarian snack bar I frequent once a month for a treat.
But always look at the elephant's leg, drooling.
Today I'd had a few I'm town with a pal and couldn't resist.
It looked great, but was so bland. I asked for some hot sauce. Still crap.
I can't imagine there being more than 1 supplier on the island, so they're all getting crap.

Being asked that dreaded question that comes around every year....
'What do you want for your birthday?'
I have no needs nor wants that i can think of. I must truly lack imagination.

It's my mother's birthday today. She's getting knives.
Everyone I know gets knives, if they want them or not.
I work for the sole UK importer of a popular premium knife brand
If you want some knives let me know.

I'm allowed to buy them at staff discounted prices, as long as I don't take the piss... I bought her some scissors in a little stand, rrp on them was £150... For one pair of scissors!
I didn't pay that money mind.

That ^.
Ours must be 20+ years-old. Can we mention brands or is that a PM kinda thang? Or more a 'piss off and mind your own' thang?
Not that I want them for my birthday, mind.

If it is Global I would be interested in a sharpener/steel. Last time I looked the retail price was ridiculous.

Mmmm....scissors. Got 2 or 3 pairs in the house from these people.

They were close to closing shop not long ago but they survived and some money has been invested. I think they're training people too. The last pair the Mrs ordered (a pair of the 'stork' ones) were on back order and took a few months to arrive. They took the £ up front but don't really mind if it keeps stuff like this going.

Why?
And does it 'match' the Global knives? Mrs CJ places much emphasis on matching.

I stopped buying Global and any other fancy knives some time ago, now I just occasionally buy cheaper ones & spend much less of my life sharpening expensive knives

My Dad (and my Grandad) was a carpenter, and I was taught how to sharpen stuff properly, to get to a wire edge and then strop it off on your hand. I also worked in a butchers as a yoof, so Iearned to use a steel too.
Problem is twofold.
1 Mrs CJ makes me wince every time she uses a knife. She doesn't treat sharp edges with any care, and I dread to hear her cutting down on a stainless steel carving dish.
2 Proper multi- oilstone sharpening takes ages after that sort of treatment.
Global do a fairly abrasive diamond 'steel' that rapidly sharpens stuff. People complain it is too abrasive, but I reckon it would suit me. The problem is the price, north of £200.

I sue a cheap and probably nasty sharpener from Amazon (not the exact one in the photo but that type!).
Despite my SDad's efforts and the tutor at college who REALLY tried to teach me how to use a steel, I can't!! My SDad used to sharpen my knives whenever he visited (cos I did have a steel, even though I didn't/couldn't use it!!).
Nowadays I just use the silly little sharpener and it seems to work just fine! I have made my knives last 12 years so far, but the chef's knife isn't going to last much longer

Really sad as my RDad bought me the set before he died

Can't imagine it'll be easy to find another well balanced pink chef's knife

My grandad was a carpenter and taught me naff all about sharpening stuff. My grandmother worked in the CooP jointing meat and taught me naff all about butchery.
Grandparents of today! Not like they used to be.
They both died before I was 10 but I'm not letting them off that easy.
