Very excited about this. Done mig before but wanted to learn tig. The seller gave me a lesson on aluminium and stainless that has give me loads of confidence. Have a load of off cuts and now it’s practice time…

I was wondering what i would use for welding steel into alloy, MIG or TIG?I have a box steel framed set of back doors in my bus and mounted the spare wheel on the door. I put the bolts through some steel box section but that obviously shows the bolt heads on the outside

What kind of alloy?
Never knew there was different types.
Alloy is just a term for a combination of a metal with some other element. Bronze and brass are alloys, so is steel for that matter.
All sorts of masonry gubbins. What started out as a repair to one small brick wall around a flowerbed has turned into repairs to several others & some brick-faced steps.
I may have got a bit carried away as I could build a house with this kit.
Damn near strained me whoopah lifting a bag of cement into & out of the SBH boot.
Secondhand Black & Decker Workmate.
Looks like an.old one cos its got some cast aluminium sections but its not the oldest type cos it also has some pressed steel sections.
That plus a few other stuff was 15 quid.

Pure metals are basically unheard of in any sort of application you or I might encounter. Jewelery and very specific electrical applications are about the only two I can think of right now. Anything structural is gonna be an alloy. Even cast iron ain't just iron.

It did occur to me that's what they might have meant but I didn't want to make that assumption. I wouldn't normally pick someone up on this sort of thing but if you're asking how to join two things together, what they are is definitely relevant.
Bought new torch for the tig welder as the 26 that came with the machine could handle the power of the machine but it was pretty big and the cable bundle was very unwieldily. I got a ck17 torch with no switch as I'm learning with a foot pedal. Very happy with the torch, it's way lighter and the 'hose' is much more flexible...

Welding steel to Aluminum is a proper pro move too. It can be done, but I wouldn't start out on that combo

Have to cut a drainage channel into some concrete that lee van cleef and John van Wayne laid a couple of weeks ago!
