Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
Started watching 'The English' yesterday. I was a bit put off by some of the over the top reviews (greatest Western ever etc) but it's interesting. Nice cinematography and all a bit dreamlike - but brutal. Body count is quite respectable.

True Grit 2010. Not normally a fan of remakes, but this wasn't a bad effort.

I think I preferred it to the original.

Manifest (on Netflix)
Just don't. Tossers
Pretty ropey acting; really bad incidental music (always a dead giveaway); really inappropriate and cheap looking special effects; a plot so implausible, full of so many holes, with so much potential for literally making it up as you go along, that it's actually quite impressive. If your missus gets hooked you're in it for 4 long series (I've slept through quite a bit of it, doesn't impact the plot what so ever).
I believe zemeckis is involved, which is surprising maybe, given his history. Must be filling up the pension pot.

I started it - but had to give up as it just seemed to be all over the place. Glad it wasn't just me!DefTrap wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:10 am Manifest (on Netflix)

Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
I thought it was good - but doing the sneaky Stranger Things of only releasing 6 episodes of a series that could go on ( & on)
Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
I don't normally turn films off once I've started, but that one I had to, it was so bad. It's no Romancing the Stone.
And what's going on with Sandra Bullock, I used to fancy her but now her face is practically frozen solid.
I can't believe that series got 4 seasons. I'm surprised it made it's way to the end of season 1. I know I didn't.DefTrap wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:10 am Manifest (on Netflix)

If you've been watching Stanley Tucci wandering around Italy and gorging himself on local food, then I suggest you watch the last episode, where he meets some female bakers from Sardina, who make traditional flat bread. Looking at the three ladies involved in the making of it, the bread is the only flat thing Stanley gets to inspect close up.

Episode 1 of Wednesday on Netflix. Tim Burton does the Addams Family. Nicely done, hopefully it’ll build.

Last Train to Christmas.
Very weird. I could easily have turned it off in the first hour, but I'm glad I didn't even though I'm not quite sure why?

Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
1st series of Andor done and dusted (12 episodes)
It's a slow burner and much more grownup than all the other star wars stuff.
Episode 10 is the real standout, you can't beat a bit of Andy Serkis.

I did.
Not that surprising really, Star Wars can never resist having everything in the galaxy involve the same small number of people.
Has Stellan Skarsgård ever not been scary as hell as well?

1899, it got to the point where it seemed too much like Lost and I lost interest.
My wife kept with it and in the final episode Pam Ewing woke up and Bobby was in the in the shower after all and it was just a dream.
Wank.
