Boris is a fuck knuckle - I never voted for him, so I have no bias towards him. He has, in this one instance, rolled the dice and scored a double 6. Luck perhaps, more likely though, he took a gamble with tax payers cash, a gamble that worked out. The EU could have done the same, they didn’t, and now they reap what they sowed.
So, because he got that right, all the previous bad things (giving money to mates to not provide stuff at the least) gets wiped away?
Would you like to show me

a} where I said that
b} where that is relevant

Would you like to also explain to me, why the one thing he has got right has to be handed away because one or two members of the EU got some other bits right...well not right, but better.
It was a question.

Until the last few days people on here have been vitriolic about Boris and what he's done wrong, and over a long period, not just the odd random thing. TBF, I can't remember who said what so wasn't pointing fingers

But, because he took a risk and authorised the Oxford vaccine to be released faster than normal, he's now back on a pedestal and the EU (EU Countries?) are the bad guys again

I just get a bit annoyed that we can't all put together on this. Yes the EU might be being a bit arsy but TBH the UK has been a total pain in the butt all round for the last few years. But what we are facing now is bigger than all that has happened before

Two wrongs don't make a right and I don't see either 'side' coming out of it well :(

TBH, this thread might as well be renamed as a Brexit thread

Damn, Yamaha announce they now have a shortfall in production and I'll have to wait a bit for my bike and pre orders ahead of me will be fulfilled first.

How's that fair? Who cares Weeksy got in 3 months before me, why can't I have my XSR at the same time? You know maybe he could have the front wheel and I'll have the back wheel
It might be in the watch thread here, or on TRC, that some of the shops will sell to favoured customers as a priority ahead of other people with enough money.

Mine was a question too. I note you haven’t answered it...

The EU are more than arsey - they are trying to bully a country that’s been hit the hardest ( how many times have we heard that) because they fucked up.

This is not in itself anything do with Brexit, it is instead to do with the UK being faster off the mark than the EU. If the UK had left the EU 20 years ago and the UK had been as quick off the mark securing vaccine supplies and the EU had been as tardy in securing vaccine supplies, Brexit would have been in the distant past. Brexit is only relevant insofar as that is when the UK became a sovereign country. Nothing else.

Maybe I’m just bored with the exceptionally anti EU comments - which I’m reading as political but maybe they aren’t

Agree. There's no need for it now that we have escaped. Can't say I particularly wish the organisation well but that is because I sincerely believe Europe will be a MUCH nicer place when its gone and we go back to having France, Germany, Italy as our friends and neighbours.

Sadly, they have brought this criticism upon themselves.

The below link, which I posted earlier, is from an EU-centric publication, Politico.eu, which I think you will find informative. :)

That really wasn't the point I was raising. But never mind. I'll leave the thread for a few days again and come back when it's more informative discussion than seriously anti this or that (given I don't live in the UK, the anti EU stuff gets a bit boring sometimes :( )

Really? :D

The EU conducted the Brexit negotiations as if they thought we were going to fold and just continue in EU Lite, paying through the nose for not very much in return. To be fair, Theresa May and Oily Robbins didn't do anything to disabuse them of that notion, but from where I'm sitting it was the EU that were playing hard ball.

Apparently we have an outstanding order for 3.5 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, being produced in Belgium. The European Commission now insist only they can authorise the "release" of those vaccines for export. If they don't, they will be preventing 1.6 million people in the uk from being vaccinated.

It is an order we made some time ago from a private company, paid for as an emergency measure at inflated prices and developed a working strategy for delivery to the patient.

Assuming all of those 1.6 million unvaccinated people develop covid-19 and ~3% die from it, the EU could be responsible for signing a death warrant for 48,000 British citizens because they messed up their order and seized our vaccine supply.

Do keep up. UK citizens are less important, so all is well.

I guess there are more than 1.6m rabid EU supporters who will agree with this, so we could take them off the vaccination list.

So at the same time as the EU evidently intends to purloin 3.5m vaccine doses destined for the UK ...

https://news.sky.com/story/uk-access-to ... s-12198979
UK access to Pfizer jab [manufactured in Belgium] threatened as EU imposes new controls on COVID vaccine exports.
... a new vaccine is due to be authorised for use by, and manufactured in, the UK.

https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-wha ... s-12201799
The UK has ordered 60 million vials of the [Novavax] vaccine - and they are going to be manufactured at a site in Stockton-on-Tees.
Edit: 3.5m

You know those red-neck, Southern-State America yobbos that fawn over patriotism in such a skewed way that it makes them sound xenophobic, dehumanised and just a bit silly? That’s some of you lot.

If you cannot start from a place where you consider the well being of all, and by which token we start with the most vulnerable, then I’m afraid that’s quite sad.

I look forward with interest about how we fought in this battle/that contract said this/ etc- but the fact remains, no soon as we leave the EU, some of you are really showing your true colours. This isn’t about us and them, it’s about us and us.
I'm taking a global view on this, you're taking a European view on it and someone else is taking a UK view - and you think that makes them xenophobic.

No, you are choosing to suggest that for typical antagonistic purposes. Because you’re a troll.

I have a global view on this- however the context of this conversation is more EU than global. Be good to get the global view on this though.

Also, wratty- nobody is suggesting UK lives are less important- some might be suggesting they are not more important however ( unless you can prove they are?). Don’t be so ridiculous.

This community probably has to reflect on why it has lost some of the more liberal, socialist thinkers from its ranks. It’s not because those views have somehow become irrelevant, it’s more that the forum- whittled down from VD to TRC to here is almost entirely populated with little-Englanders.
