The odds are, they were, it's just that with social media nowdays everyones voice is heard over 1,000,000 times, rather than just chatting to a bloke in the pub, you now tell 1,000 people on a forum, who tell 4,000 people on Facebook, who then.... etc etc.

Boris is quoted as saying tougher restrictions are coming, like fucking winter in GoT. Limiting exercise to one hour a day is being mooted around, plus a possible curfew. Not sure if he isn't pissing in the wind here, as I don't see what difference going out for a hour instead of two or three makes, nor taking the dog for its last piss before bed.
All the anecdotal evidence points to the fact that the virus may not be dangerous to kids, but the schools seem to the passing it around. One of my mate's kid got it and passed it on the entire family and my other friend works in a school and, like a number of her colleagues and pupils, went down with it, seriously in her case.
My daughter tells me one the crazes at her school prior to Christmas was the younger ones in Year 7 (first years, to us oldies) licking their hand and wiping it on an unsuspecting victim's face whilst shouting 'COVID!!'. My friend who works in the all-boys school said that fights were just as common, i.e. very, which kind of precludes social distancing. All the evidence, etc., etc....

But still, let's make sure our masks are three layers thick, eh?

Government censored press. Always the sign of happy people in a well run country.
blah blah
It's very much like when I lived in the Bahamas, over there the paparazzi are banned and they don't allow intrusive and sensationalist press to print a load of political crap to twist up the minds of the population. In fact, I don't recall seeing a newspaper, people are just getting on with whatever is around them, not being told what to think by propaganda from the tabloids. I suppose you could argue that the Bahamas is a terrible place to live, I'll let you get on with that in your own time.

I can see why it scares you though, some of you seem to struggle to get by in a country where the government pretty much lets you do whatever you want.
You'd find life more challenging in a stricter place.

I'm afraid I remain convinced that freedom of speech and a free press are good things.

I've got no problem with free press. The issue I have is that the free press in the UK seems to be a licence to print lies, exacerbate fears, spread rumours and destroy people lives

If they were limited to freedom to print what is actually happening then yup - free press

As it is, some of the papers need a freaking muzzle, not a mask!!

Life can be challenging, but I don't see the point in the fantasy that [insert leader or rich person of choice] is sitting around like a Dickensian villain splashing champagne up the walls and throwing children on the fire.

Some people are so wretched that they not only need this fantasy for themselves, but they hawk it all over town until they've convinced other dull thinking people to be as unhappy as they are.

So, schools are a problem where they're a problem, but not where they're not or until they are?

“ Boris Johnson is to hold a news conference at 8pm, where he will announce all the things Nicola Sturgeon announced today, and all the things Keir Starmer told him to announce days ago, and all the things the scientific community told him to announce weeks ago

Isn't he great?”

Is it so terrible if people express their opinions on the issues of the day?

If we only talked about motorbikes there wouldn't be that much to say.

I do agree some aspects of the press are undesirable but I don't think blanket censorship is the answer.

Freedom of speech is a good thing IMO.

Sturgeon always does it at lunchtime and she chose that after Boris started the evening sessions, I think they both chose the best time for when most of their subjects will be at home.
Starmer always says to shut things down and in a few months he will be saying the Tories trashed the economy, he has an easy job for now.
I hear a lot about this scientific community as if it's all scientists speaking as one, I suspect it is a rather specialised subset of scientists that have joint tunnel vision. Any scientist in a medical field that doesn't hammer the same line home will be conveniently ignored.

In an ideal world we would all isolate completely for a month but that still wouldn't eradicate it and everyone would be hungry.

Ferrier has been arrested for reckless conduct, this will be interesting and about time. I wonder if Cummings will follow now he's been disposed of.
